Guiuan is a very beautiful place in the Philippines. There's also the Homonhon Island where Magellan first landed. And the beaches are just breathtaking. If you guys have been there, let me know your stories. And to those who haven't, you should put that on your "places to travel" list. The air is very fresh and not too crowded, unlike Boracay. You should consider Guiuan as your next vacation destination. :)

Is there such a place in the Philippines? Funny as I worked in the tourism industry for a couple of years promoting and selling the country's top destination but never heard of Guiuan. Homonhon Island was mentioned several time in my history class in the elementary grade, but right now don't ask me the historical relevance as I already forget LOL!

Yes, there is a place called "Guiuan" in the Philippines! I've just been there last month for a vacation/outing with friends. You go by a plane and you land in Tacloban first before you go on a 3-4 hour ride to Guiuan. It's really a beautiful place with very nice people. And Homonhon Island is part of Guiuan, and as I've mentioned earlier, it is the first landing site of Magellan in the Philippines. :) Don't worry, I forget historical relevances too. Every time! Haha!

I wish I could visit Samar (never been there), my grandfather in my mother's side became provincial treasurer of Samar in the early sixties (he is not from Samar but was assigned there) when it was just one whole province and the capital was Catbalogan, that was before 1965 when the province was sub-divided , I was i think 4 to 6 years old when he would arrive and tell me a lot of stories how beautiful the province was plus the goodies, the "tapa" (dried meat) and dried fish and fruits which he brought to us. Yes he had a lot of good things to say about the beaches being a good swimmer.

My grandmother is from Catbalogan Samar. We've been there to Guiuan many times and visited the beaches. I missed the place now. I've also been to Surigao and Leyte where beaches are also good and a nice place to visit. I am inviting you too to visit my hometown "Baguio City" or maybe you have been there already welcome to mylot
