My cousin send a message to me today and said we will meet in a Mall near to my place. He will treat me for a movie. We decided to watched Harry Potter. The lady asked what I like to purchase 2D, 3D and regular viewing. I asked my cousin since he will be paying the ticket. Its up to me to decide. So I choose 2D since this is the safest answer I could think of. What's the difference 2D and regular viewing?

I'd be surprised if there's any difference at all. The lady probably meant to ask "regular or 3D" and got confused, or actually believes 2D is some kind of inter-dimensional alternative that's different to regular viewing. Or people are confused by 2D, so she says "regular" as well.

I was wondering that too. Maybe regular means you stay in this dimension alone, whereas 2D means you can watch the movie in both this reality , and another one where Sirius Black is still alive? And isn't played by Gary Oldman?!

Maybe if you choose to watch in 2D, they mean YOU have to be in two dimensions, so they get a steamroller and squash you infinitely thin before they let you in?

I agree with Spike. I always though 2D is the regular way of viewing a movie. If not, then Syoti you just blew my mind.

I was under the impression that regular viewing and 2D where the same thing. I don't think there is actually a difference, I think the lady probably made a mistake. Personally I prefer 2D, the last couple of times I did the 3D, I was dizzy and had a tremendous migrane. Let me know how Harry Potter is, I have heard the movie is excellent. Have Fun and Enjoy!!!

Some 3d films make me dizzy as well. For those that don't read the book you will enjoy it still. But I believe the last 3-10 minutes is just for those that read the book. Don;t want to spoil anybody's fun... It was quite good actually the best in the series by far.

Hey thanks for letting me know. I have actually heard from a few of my friends the same thing. That it is by far the best sequel of the entire series. I am so looking forward to seeing it, I hope I have the opportunity this weekend. Glad you enjoyed it.

I dunno.. haha =D I've always thought that 2D and regular viewing are same, since we are watching without the aid of anything, nor the glasses.. haha =D I guess 2D doesn't have much difference because over at our side, we dun have such classification.. haha =D Maybe it's auto classified as 2D as it sounds better and classy?? haha

Hi Syoti! hehe.. They are both the same. We just have two types of viewing- 2D and 3D. She should say it as the normal or 3D type. or you should ask her syoti what the difference between them!(^^)

I thought 2D and regular viewing are the same, in terms of video quality. There may be difference in terms of audio. Maybe regular viewing uses regular speakers while the 2D cinemas have dolby speakers or something...Just a thought.

I believe regular viewing is 2D viewing and the person who gave you 3 options has gone horribly wrong. She should have asked whether you want to view the movie in 3D or regular 2D viewing.

2D is flat and 3D the picture pops out at you. Trust me there is a big difference because most people get headaches from the 3D or the have troubling seeing the 3D.

i think the only difference is the price of tickets. lol!!! seriously, 3d does not add anything significant to the viewing experience. as long as the story is a good one, regular viewing is fine. i think 3d is another means of the movie houses to get their patrons to part with their hard earned cash. hahahahaha!!!

From what I understand - 2D means digital cinema, while regular viewing means the traditional use of projector and films.

There is no other choice except regular viewing or 3D. 2D is regular viewing. I guess either they didn't know what they were talking about or they were confused. I would have picked 3D to have a better experience in the movie.

2D is supposed to be the same as regular viewing or non 3D. However, in our cinemas here in the Philippines, they use the tag 2D for the clearer/better copy of the movie. I'm not sure if you noticed it but the film in "2D" is clearer in focus compared to the grainy-type films we have on regular viewing format. If we're going to compare it to a disk, regular viewing is the DVD copy while 2D is the blue-ray. Simple as that.

2D means 2 Dimensions. The 2 dimensions are called length and breadth. In 3D, there are three dimensions - length, breadth and height. It appears more realistic. If we look from sides on 2D, it appears flat but if we look from sides in 3D, it appears as we are really witnessing the event. The height in 3D can sometimes be replaced by depth. 2D is the regular viewing and 3D require you to wear 3D glasses.

As far as I know, 2D is the same as regular viewing! So obviously there was some confusion with the ticket lady - every time I have gone to see a movie there have only ever been options between 2D and 3D, and a 2D movie is the same as any regular movie. Hope that helps!

2D is regular viewing. I don't know why it starts with 2 and then they go to the 3D. It looks like it should be 1D and then 2D, but 3D is used quite often, which is three dimensional.

Like the others said, usually 2D is regular viewing. And 3D requires you to wear those 3D glasses that make you see thing from the movie as if they are coming out of the screen. BUT if you are at an IMax theater, their could be a difference. An IMax 2D is different from your regular 2D (sort of like High Definition TV compared to regular TV). Then again, if there is a 3D option, I would wonder why they would offer IMax 2D? It could be that the lady was just confused. This would be my best guess.

I think it is two dimension and 3 dimension relating to video projection on the screen. Beyond that I have no idea whatsoever.
