Barbie's father has passed away
Elliot Handler, creator of Barbie, Ken, Skipper, and Hot Wheels through the Mattel Inc. toy company has died at age 95.
Handler's earliest hit product for Mattel was a 'Uke-A-Doodle,' a mini-sized ukulele small enough to be used by a child. And then there was the Burp gun, that was a cap pistol.
However, Barbie is the doll that would leave tiny footprints on imaginations for generations of children and adults both. Barbie collectable editions in fine condition can be worth many thousands per doll.

I am sure when he created the Barbie he never thought it would still be so popular yet today, and so collected by kids of all ages. I personally have a few Barbies in my collection that are still New in the box, and would never part with them unless I felt I had no choice. It has been interesting to see many of the different styles and types created.

Then there are all the spinoffs. Bratz among others who's names I cannot remember at the moment.

I know that during their time Bratz caused a ruckus due to their less than wholesome, um, brat image, but they were still Barbie spinoffs. All of the tiny dolls that somewhat appeared 'grownup' are Barbie spin offs.
