For me, the President's SONA yesterday is good, especially the housing project for the police, the military and other members of the forces like the jail management and fire bureau.
But there was no direct point the state workers should hope, especially the lowest in rank and file. We are the ones most affected by the price increase of fuel, rice, milk, medicine, rent, electricity, water and all other basic needs to make our children's lives better.
Yes our salaries increase once in awhile but it could not reach the level of the cost of living.

Hi mrf,
Nice thoughts, if you may say "our President CAN'T do it alone" and the solution of our problems is eighty percent up to ourselves. I really like the idea.
The Filipino people, including yours truly, just can't wait by the sidelines waiting for something to happen but should do something to make things happen, that is, in consonance with just values, morals, law and order.
I do believe in the extraordinary ability of the Filipino: the stoic farmer in the field under sun and rain, the talented machinists and engineers in the machine shops, the overburdened teachers in schools, the heroic overseas workers and the legions of others who, in way or another, made in/significant contribution towards a more abundant and peaceful Philippines.
The other twenty percent just don't see them so. Their pockets and bank accounts are more full than the one who toiled and suffered more than they do.

I did not listen to him actually. I did not really mind listening because I was thinking she would again criticize the former administration. I'm fed up with such kind of speeches. I think it is not proper to keep criticizing Gloria or any person in a SONA. He should be talking rather of his achievements for the past year, what improvements he was able to achieve and what more can we expect from his government. I don't like to hear criticisms but achievements and actions to be undertaken. It is better to just do the necessary action to bring her into jail if that is what she deserves instead of merely criticizing.
So he promised housing projects for them? Well and good! I hope his promises are delivered well. And he should look at others who deserve such benefits too. He should concentrate more on his jobs instead of looking at the defects of the past administration. Just sue GMA and all who committed corruption and let the court decides. Meanwhile P-noy should work more because I have not really seen much improvement.

actually, there were not so much about the past administration that were mentioned during the sona. i cannot even remember arroyo was mentioned. if you just wish to read the entire speech, you can check with this link: http://www.gov.ph/2011/07/25/benigno-s-aquino-iii-second-state-of-the-nation-address-july-25-2011/
yes he mentioned housing for the pnp and other members of the military. but just like one who commented on my other post, what the people want is housing not only for the pnp, the military, the state workers but for each and every filipino.

how can the poor help themselves with the non-stop increase of fuel prices, of the basic needs for them to live like rice, milk, water, etc? how can they help themselves when the people in the government is stealing money for which they are supposed to be for the people?

Thanks for the link. Well it is a good thing he did not commit the same blunder. I have had enough of those criticisms in his past speeches. Indeed housing for all the poor people is good but it is not that easy to be undertaken. The poor people should rather do something to help themselves instead of relying on what the government can do for them.

When was the last time there was a cost of living raise? Been a while! And what do we do to live above the poverty level? Or is that where they want us to remain? In my state unemployment is still above the national average. Sad. I doubt things will ever be even or in a good place.

I just hope this administration should just stop digging the mistakes made by the past administration and rather focus more on what should be done to improve the way of life of the people. why is it so hard to see the simplest problem in the country like poverty, you see them everywhere. come to think of it, the president should not be blamed on everything coz we should also do our part if we want our country to improve. If we love our country, do not let yourself be a i victim of the rotten system that they keep saying would eat you up. PNOY has a long way to go, lets give him a chance and help him instead of complaining.

I think all the President who get in the position have contributed something to help improve the state of our country like PGMA, I think like PNOY they have done what they can...the problem is they are too slow...I think the cycle just continues...the rich get richer and the poor gets even poorer. Maybe, if they could just resolve poverty that is a good start already. But I have high hopes that there is still a chance. There are more SONA to come, so wait and see

hello neil,
That's a good project, but i believed that unemployment should be prioritized, and it is increasing everyday.
Same thing with health, where government hospitals doesn't have all the facilities needed for emergency cases, knowing poor citizen cannot afford those big named hospitals.
Food and health is very necessary...let the housing project comes next .
(just my views)
good day always my dear brother

I think giving to low ranking police and military officers is no longer a promise cause they have already distributed some of them in Cavite, Laguna, and another place north, they just have to pay 200 pesos or about 4.6usd/month. I think the promise is it would include firemen, jailguards and other government employees later and it would also be implemented in the Visayas and possibly Mindanao. Yes the SONA was a bit empty when it comes to over all solid plan for the common workers and laborers

I think what's holding up PNoy to give out affordable housing to all government workers is that the funds are insufficient to support it. This is the reason why corruption on all levels in the government should be eradicated. If we prevented crooked politicians, generals, employees, policemen, and bishops from stealing our tax money then imagine how much we can do to help poor Filipinos including the majority of our honest and hardworking government employees.

@greenpeas, I agree with you, and I think the best way to get those funds is to go after who ever stole our money
. Presuming this government is really sincere in restoring our country to what it was, we need money and to get money we have to eliminate corruption and go after tax evaders, make those government holdings that make money but unfortunately they suck dry earn again like the PCSO and Pagcor, catch all those who stole money then freeze or sequester their assets and put it back to the government coffers, If PNOY's administration can do these then we are talking business, easier said than done though

Everyone is affected by this global inflation. The untold miseries suffered by ordinary people should be highlighted to the Government as it is the Government's responsibility to help the welfare of her citizens. We in Malaysia are fortunate as the Government are building a lot of houses to meet the increasing demand for the growing population. The hardcore poor are not neglected as they are the prime concern of our government and were given free housing and monthly allowances to help them survive during this difficult time when prices of goods are escalating uncontrolled.

everyone is affected zandi but i can see that Malaysia has a better concern to the poor which made me think, can i migrate to your place?
seriously, i envy you guys out there where even you are also affected by the inflation, you still manage to give free housing and allowances to the poor to help them survive.

I understand you're situation but maybe he did this first so that it would lessen corruption in the police force because they are the one handling problems in terms of fighting crime. I believe some day it will be you're turn together along with different government agencies. solutions aren't easily made

I think low cost housing should be one of the priorities of the government since house rent takes a huge chunk of an employee's salary. it's really hopeless to think that you'll just be renting for the rest of your life and when you no longer have money, the landlord can just ask you to leave, it seems just like money down the drain. Unlike if it's a housing loan, no matter how hard it is to make ends meet you have hope that at least you will own the house someday.

about three years ago, i searched for low cost housing projects here. but those housing still high for employees like me who receive low salaries. sometimes i wonder how can those people are able to pay their monthly amortization when they are earning just above the minimum.
