http://yarntree.com/java/xstitchcal.htm If you are undecided what size material (thread count) to use you can always play on this chart and figure out the size, how much material will be needed, how many strands of floss to use and the size of needle. I always find this chart very helpful if I am making the size different than what the pattern states. Hope this helps some of the cross stitchers.

this looks very helpful, even if I'm doing waste canvas and don't need material on the sides, I could use it to help decide how much waste canvas I would need (I ran a couple of stitches short once)

I have a wheel chart calculator thingie, but for the life of me and the sake of this discussion, I can't find it right now. (One of the drawbacks of having an enormous stash.)

Oh girl you and I would be in a mess if we were neighbors! My son made me a wooden lap desk and the lid lifts. He woodburned on it for me for a christmas present. If I did not have that I would lose my mind let alone my stuff for cross stitch LOL
