There is a theory proposed by Nicolas Carr, he predicted that our computer future will allow cloud computing technology to be available every single one of us. With google providing free cloud computing service, and Apple selling cheap hardware device; our computer will only need a microprocessor, a monitor and a keyboard. We will be connected to internet wireless. We don't need hard drive, DVD - ROM. Our stored data and information will be in google cloud storage. Whenever we need it, we can retrieve it. We don't have to pay for the application software whenever it is updated. We can access to virtually any software application we need through cloud computing. How convenient, and how productive that will be.
In the recent years, many organizations already adopted cloud computing, authorized third - party to manager their data, and they can access their data and information wherever they go. That will be our future. What do you think?

While this may sound interesting and cool, there is a downside to this as well thus why this technology isn't quite avaible everywhere and remains expermental at best. Just like with everything there are pros and cons. Sure it would make life so much easier in theory, but there are drawbacks to it as well. For example, you would be basically running everything from your browser-- literally. No support and you wouldn't have the advantages of a desktop application. Meaning you can't store files locally, and loose the connection loose your work. Wireless internet itself isn't an exact sicence, and any number of things can caus problems. Whereas with desktop applications, you don't have to rely on the connection. Net goes down you can still keep typing.
The idea behind cloud computing is not designed for the adverage work-at-home person... but for the person on-the-go who only requires the web to get work done. It's designed for limited use with the idea that nothing is stored on the system and everything is in this cloud accessed with a simple log-in. Applications can't be stored locally, nor can files or anything like that. Nothing is privite everything is exposed for the world to see.
