living in the city, you're inundated by a myriad amount of sounds. the cacophony is quite disturbing. when you get transplanted to smaller towns you begin to hear the little things... like crickets... and then you smile... or do you?

I'm a city girl so I'm used to hearing people, traffic, sirens, etc. There's always something going on in the background. You get used to it. Sometimes I'll go up to a family friend's cabin about 180 miles out of the city and crickets and "nature" is all I hear. It's a refreshing change, but I start to miss what I'm used to (the city) after a while. Both are good though by me. lol.

When I was still in the Philippines this experience has been very common to me. But since I moved to England all I hear is the sound of cars, music, people, etc. Very much city like. The sound of the crickets doesn't bother me, rather make me aware that I am in a more peaceful community.

You probably haven't seen it but there was an episode of Fraiser where they have a cricket in their Seattle apartment. So his dad has the idea to get a gecko lizard to get rid of the cricket. Fraiser freaks thinking then he would have a lizard in his apartment so they put a harness on the lizard made from Fraiser's fancy cinnamon flavored floss. They catch the cricket and harness in the lizard. Cute episode though.

So true. The city sounds are actually awful and i never appreciated them. But when i go home to my hometown and then i can hear the rooster in the morning. I feel so great!

I live in a pretty small town and close to the water,so I can also hear sounds made by different creatures such as crickets, and it is a refreshing sound compared to the noise of big cities;I definitely prefer to hear the small creatures living by the water.
