E reader in color or not?

I started a discussion about whether or not to get a Kindle or a Nook. I've been looking back and forth and decided I wanted a Nook because I can get it from our local Barnes and Nobles here in town. And then someone talked about the Nook in color. In color? They have that? Oh brother. Now I have to make another choice! What are the benefits of a color version of the Nook? It costs $100 more. Will I be satisfied with just a Nook, or will I regret later and want one in color? Choices, choices...sigh...

How about just not feeding the huge electronic monster of doom out to destroy print book? That's my stance on the issue.
On a more serious note... I guess it just depends on what you read. If you read electronic magazines with full color pictures and you'd prefer not to loose that element of the reading experience, then you should get the color. If you just read plain books all the time, then there's no point.

Up to now, I haven't read anything online. I'm a book collector and am feeling claustrophobic! And sometimes, holding a book hurts because of the arthritis in my hands and wrists. The e readers are very light weight and sounded like that would solve 2 problems at once.

I know, I've just got a personal vince against e-books and e-readers. I love print books, and I would carry eight hardcovers with me on vacation and drown in books at home before I'd join that bandwagon. I do not want to see them disappear.
Have you decided if you're getting the color or not?

I love buying books as well, however one advantage of e-books (for those who are growing older) is that you can expand the size of the print which makes it easier to read. Although I haven't bought one, I have downloaded Kindle to my laptop, and have also downloaded a number of free e-books from Guttenberg.

The Nook Colour seems an attractive option in spite of its price but you need to consider its one disadvantage. The Nook Colour has a LCD display and for extended reading is no different as far as eye strain than reading on a computer screen. The e-Ink displays of the black and white readers are much better if you intend long, serious sessions of reading.

Thanks for that information. I sometimes read for hours or until I finish a book. Sounds like the black and white would be better.

I am colour blind, so doesn't really matter to me if an e-reader is in colour or not. What would be of much more concern is the cost of downloading the e-books.
Have you compared the prices for identical e-books on the B&N and Amazon websites? Also look at Gutenberg where the e-books are free, a lot of their e-books can be downloaded for the Kindle, but I don't know what format Nook is in.
However, at the end of the day - The Choice Is Yours! Make it wisely!!

Waterstones in U.K. have recently announced that they will sell the Nook (at last in U.K!!!),
however it will not be until next year (2012), so they will miss the Christmas selling season this year. There is also no price announced yet.
This could then be too late for them to make much impact especially as Kindle is expected to sell massively over this time.

Yes, and Amazon.com is so popular, that probably more people would go there first. I was impatient. I wanted it right away, and we have a Barnes & Nobles here in town. So I went there instead of ordering online through Amazon. Anyway, the price should be whatever the equivalent to 150 US dollars is in the UK. That is what they've been selling it for for quite awhile now.
