I have only two pairs of shorts, so i needed more. I looked online and found a lot of different tutorials and ideas for making cute cutoff shorts, but in the end I just took an old pair of jeans and cut off the legs. I have another old pair of jeans though, and I'm wondering if anyone has sewn fabric on to make a more interesting cuff, or hemmed them, and if it actually works for the average person. (Keeping in mind that obviously I'm a bit lazy, considering all I did to the first pair was roll the hem up so that you can not see the cut edge.

I did not make myself one but I saw my friends doing so. They usually make shorts from the jeans pants which is torn around knee area. Different people cut it in different style. Some cut if in the style of edge of saw. Some sew it after cutting while some leave it like that.

Yeah, I just left mine and rolled them up. I am thinking about sewing the next pair though. Then again, not sewing seems to have worked fine. These jeans are pretty worn out anyway, so I don't think they'll last more than another summer.

Yea better use it than through it. Jeans usually get torn from knee portion. So we can cut and throw the torn portion and make a shorts out of it. IT will save money as you don't have to buy a short.

Yep. I have done that too. I have done it because I wanted to not spend money for shorts or I really liked the jeans and maybe they had a hole in them or something, so instead of throwing them out, I make shorts out of them.

Yeah, these jeans had holes in the knees. But they made really comfortable shorts.

Yes, I'm finding that! I used to just give them to a friend to make quilts out of...now I can still give her the most useable part for her (the legs, which aren't as worn) and I have a pair of shorts that fit well and are very soft and cosy.

Yes..I have! I do it with jeans that are pretty worn. Like a couple of responders mentioned...it is a great way to put them to good use. I like doing it too because you can control the length you wanted them to be. There was a time when I went shopping for my young girls and the only ones I could find looked like blue jean panties. There was noway I was buying those! I cut some of their jeans up to the middle of their thighs and they were just as nice as anything offered in the store...just a little longer..lol.

I have seen people making shorts out of jeans. I am not sure how skillful you are at sewing, but they do make hand held sewing machines. My husband bought me one two weeks ago. He bought he because he loves me. Whenever he has extra money he buys me little gifts.

That would be such a fun thing to have; how thoughtful of your husband! I am okay at sewing but can only use the machine when my toddler is asleep.
