It has been my understanding that if a spouse had been believed to be dead and ruled deceased and the living spouse remarried and later that the assumed dead spouse was found to be alive that the marriage the living spouse had entered was null and void. But,it has been recently brought to my attention,in movies and tv, that is not the law in some states. What do you think?

Hello dfolin. I have the same understanding as danishcanadian does.I believe it is the same for inheritance or to receive insurance. Tv and movie shows take a lot of poetic license. A lot of those detective or police shows make it look so easy to catch criminals. Like CSI the lab people being out chasing the criminal. I'll bet they only collect evidence in real life.
