Microsoft just came out with this cool (no pun intended
) idea that they could store their data center in our basement and we could use the heat generated by those to keep our houses warm in the winter and also heat our water
.
Of course, the data center would have to be protected and they think some kind of arrangement should be taken to cover the huge electric bills.
Would you be interested in housing such a data center if it were offered to you? Can you see any inconvenience to heat your home with a data center? Do you think secure servers would be a thing of the past if data centers were housed in homes
?

i'm not sure if i like this idea, microsoft already have too much influence over my life, i'm not sure i would want them in my basement too, even if, in return they offered to heat my home, and maybe even pay some of the bills. that just a closer relationship with them than i would want.

True that Microsoft is already trying to control what we do online. You cant even try to get rid of IE without your system trying to push it down your throat by slowing down your machine. I had this happen to me and I couldnt believe it
. Im hoping that maybe it would be put in the hands of another company but that would highly surprise me. I guess it would be on a volunteer basis. If you want it, you can get it, if not...you dont!!
Imagine Microsoft in your basement.....

I never heard of anything like this and I would think that there is no way that Microsoft would do that. However, if they did then they would have to have those data centers highly protected. I would not want the things in my home because I would be afraid that too much information might get into the wrong hands.

According to what they said, they would be able to keep the data centers safe. How they'd to that, Im not sure as it didnt say. Im the same, Im not sure Id like to have a data center in my basement. Id be afraid of people wanting to get that information. The thought was good though, wanting to use the heat that is lost at present. Im sure they'll come up with something. Microsoft is always on the lookout to make money, so they'll come up with a way
