Is the Acer Aspire a lemon?

I have an Acer Aspire notebook/laptop from a relative. They had used it maybe one week or so, had some trouble and set it aside. They ended up buying a new laptop and never did anything with this one. We took it to a repair place who said where the power cord plugs into the computer had been pushed in too far or something. They repaired it, gave us a new power cord/battery and it cost us about $200. I was excited to get an almost new laptop! Recently I have been having trouble with the cord fitting the connection and not charging. I even taped the cord in a certain direction to make it stay still so it would charge while I used the computer. I finally bought another power cord off of eBay for about $20. It worked great for about a week. And then I started having the same trouble with the connection. A few minutes ago, I started smelling something funny and then a little later, it smelled like something burning. Where the cord connects to the computer just fried! OMG! I dug out the old power cord/adapter and plugged it in before the computer lost all of its charge. I had noticed the cord getting really hot once in awhile when I was messing with it to stay still and keep charging. This is becoming a big pain! Is this model 4720Z of the Acer Aspire a lemon? I really don't have the money to go buy a new laptop! ARGH!

I do not know if that model is a lemon, Consumer Reports might tell you, but I had an HP that ended up with lots of the same problems, but it was actually caused by a lightening strike. We still nursed it along for about two years after that. Did not have the overheating issue. Where that pin is inside the computer it is very hard to repair. We finally gave up. Have you tried a cooler pad under it?
