As I have been away for so long, I want to update my friends on my news... bit by bit.
The first is thatI moved homes. I sold my house at Hay Valley and bought one at Woodcroft. I did this because my previous house which I had lived in for 20 years, was too big for me. Too big inside for all the cleaning, and way too big outside for all the gardening.
I wanted to downsize especially for a much smaller yard.
The housing market is very bad at the moment, so I had to offer it a a low price.
I sold it in one week, and bought the courtyard siz home I had my eye on.
I only had 4 weeks to pack and move. What a nightmare that was.
But im here now, and am very happy with my home. The inisde is about 30 square metres than my previous house, but the outside is much smaller. The gard is perfect for me to manage it, as I still love gardening.
I haven't npacked all the boxes yet!

Good to know that you have found a new dwelling. Unlike here in my place the property market is booming with the prices keep going up. I've also just sold my house which was too big for me after the kids left the nest and I really feel drowned in such a big bungalow with a land area of 4 acres I couldn't possibly manage to upkeep monthly. Now I've got a smaller unit with a small manageable empty spaces to keep me occupied with my not so green fingers. I've not moved in though as I am still doing the final touches in my new renovation for the kitchen.

You had a lot more land than me; I couldn't possibly manage 4 acres, so I understnad why you would want to move. You have the much the same reasons as me for moving... downsizning. I really wanted a smaller house both inside and outside. Now there is just enough yar to keep me happy with gardening.
What is your new renovation for the kitchen?
I didn't have anything renovated, although I did buy a new TV and have just ordered an out door table setting.
I remember you, from Indonesia?

That is incredibly kind of your mother to buy you a home. My parents are buying the vertical blinds for three of my large windows.
that makes a lot of sense to convert to one big kitchen. I love cooking too, but would focus more on main meals and vegan meals. Not that I don't love breads and buns!

I am from Malaysia. The beauty of my new house is a gift from mom and for the first time in my life I live in a house free from encumbrances. It is a terrace townhouse where all the houses are of uniformed designs. The house has a wet and dry kitchen. Since I don't want to have two kitchens I renovated the wet kitchen to be more spacious. So I have a big kitchen where I can spend most of my time cooking or baking. I intend to turn my kitchen into a mini bakery for home baked breads and buns for sale. At least I have something to do to utilize my free time.

Yes, I was able to buy at a low price as well. I was very lucky, as i sold my home and bought the one I wanted in one week.
I believe our housing market is as bad as the US, in some places anyway. It certainly has had abig downfall and doesn' tshow any real recovery signs.

Hello Jenny Bianca. It is very interesting to hear about your move to a smaller house. I can understand downsizing when there are so many rooms that need cleaning and a large garden in summer needs lots of maintaining. You did really well to get packed up in just 4 weeks and then move. Good luck with unpacking all the boxes and getting your new home organized.
Last summer I moved from my 2 bedroom terraced house to my 3 bedroom semi detached bungalow. I had to move because my disabled son was too heavy to carry upstairs. Life was getting a struggle in that house and it became too small once my daughter was born. I had to find out if I could afford to purchase a bungalow. I had to look around the bungalows on offer. Luckily the second person to look at my house agreed to buy it. I was able to have my offer on the bungalow accepted. This summer I have been enjoying developing my garden.

I stillhave at least 8 boxes inside to unpack and about 15 in the shed. I never want to move again...
I can see why you had to upsize. Kids need space. Did you have to move far away? I only moved to the next suburb.
How are you developing your garden? I want to plant a few more flowering shrubs, and vegetables in my back garden. I need to wait a few more weeks for spring to reallly kick in.

When I filled my bungalow I put other boxes in my garage. I moved about one and a half miles away. I used to live on the edge of the coastal town overlooking fields now I live in a slightly different area. I am making my back garden look hardy tropical. I have bought a shed and turned it into a summer house, bought a thatched bird table and planted some hardy exotic plants like the waggie and want to plant my 2 meter tall cabbage palm. I hope to get a large fortune palm too. Good luck with planting your new garden in the spring.

I think I will be very happy in my new home.
Bianca is very happy. She owns a horse, is a swimming instructor and is studying year 13.

How wonderful that you were able to sell your home and get anotherer house for sale for three years before it sold. Most people have their homes for sale for years and never sell. My friend had had her home for sale for over 3 years before it sold. She bought a house in Florida while waiting for her house in NY to sell.

It is a lot like that here too, values have really dropped and homes are hard to sell. The problem is that people don't want to offer their home ata lower value. My brother has had his home up for sale for 8 months, and no one will buy it. He can't buy another home until this one is sold.

Luckily my friend was able to buy a home in Florida.. her house in NY was paid for a long time ago, so she was able to buy a home with no problem and the money she got from the sale she put on the mortgage and paid it off or nearly off. Her husband is elderly, so after he passes away she won't have a big mortgage hanging over her head. She is 58 and her hubby is 82... he is very young for his age... but sooner or later he will catch up to his age. He's very active right now and looks about 65. I'm glad she had the good sense to apply the money from the sale of the house to the new mortgage.

Thanks for your blessing. Indeed downsizing is the way to go when one wants to do more than constant house cleaning.

That is wonderful. It is good to hear from you. We love our home but get drove nuts here in this county and in this neighborhood. We do not want to leave our home that we have worked so hard for and done so much landscaping, but we do not know how much more we can stand here either.

Congratulations on your new home. Moving is a lot of work. My husband and I have considered moving to a bigger house a couple of times and even went out looking with a realtor a couple different times over the years, but we never found another home that was worth doing all the work of moving. We actually started packing things up at one point to get our house up for sale, but it just seemed like too much work and there wasn't anything we fell in love with. Now our kids our getting older, so I am sure in time we will downsize as well. My mom would kind of like to downsize but she feels she won't get a good deal if she sells her house in this market. It s nice that she has the bigger house though when my brother and sister who live in other states to come visit.

The thing with selling in a poor market, is that one can buy well. So although I sold my house at a much lower value than what it was worth 10 months ago, I also bought my new home at a bargain price.
It depends on where your Mum would like to live, as it may wel still be worth her while selling in a down market. I can understand her big home being good for when family come to stay, but she may find it a bit much to look after as she gets older.

I am glad you are happy in your new home. Moving is always such a big unpleasant job. Doing it in a certain time frame always makes it worse. The few times I have moved, I would want to start packing, but realized it was too early and then before you know it it's too late. I know someone that moved a year ago, and she hasn't unpacked her boxes, so take your time and do a little at a clip.

My cousin moved interstate a few months ago, and she had 300 boxes! Can you imagine that?
I had far less, but am still unpacking boxes. I never want to move again.

Congrads on selling your house Iknow that is such a great feeling to sell a house and buy another house. we are in the mix of looking for a 4bdr 2ba so can you give me some pointers on what to look for?

It is hard for me to give you pointers, as I don't know where you live.
Basicly though, lok for a colour scheme you are going to be comfortable with, as you don't want to repaint the whole house after you move in.
Plus, look for signs of structural damage, electricity, plumping, etc.
Check that the heating and airconditioning work. Move cupboards and loungues around to make sure they are not covering holes are bad marks.
Food luck with your house hunting and let me know how it goes.

I am happy that you are feeling more comfortable in you new house. But, I may not be your friend yet now. But, I am a well wisher of you. You said that the gardening a large garden is making you feel dis comfortable but, you should like to have green plants and trees around your home, that is also good for health. My dream home should have greenary around it.

Congratulations on your new house! The only time I move to another house is when I moved from my parent's house to the house owned by my husband's family. I know it is a difficult job, it is better to pack than unpacked and put things in order again. I am thinking that when our children are still small, we want a bigger house so they could have a place to move but when they grew up and start to be on their own, our house seems to be too big for us especially when they have their own family and seldom visit us. I don't want that to happen, to lose sight of my children but I could not control what's future might bring to them. Good luck!

Thank You. I am still put things in order.
I liked it when I lived in my big house and my daughter as a young child played so much outide, but of course now she is 18 it is far less important. She says she is going to help me with the vegetable garden though!
