Ever since we moved in here in our new house just a couple of months ago, I've been separating garbage wastes, from biodegradable and non-biodegradable. I got 2 separate boxes as well for glass and plastic bottles which can still be recycled for other use. That's when I realized that my box is already overflowing with plastic bottles. And so, I'm gonna sell it to make some earnings and donate it to our church fund for mission. I'm just glad that I've been faithful on separating wastes and I'm gonna be more faithful to it! Do you separate your garbage at home as well? How do you do it?

We separate our recyclables and take them to municipal sites. In my country it is not particularly viable to sell recyclables as an individual as you need such huge quantities.

No. I just said that we separate them and take them to municipal sites. The local council arranges recycling of such things in bulk. I was explaining that it's not generally viable to SELL recyclables as an individual.

I think this is more common now a days. Because we have seen the results of the old practice of most people throwing their waste indiscriminately. Now with many information campaign more people learned waste segregation, non-bio and biodegradable and plastics and other items that can be recycled. Some people have the opportunity to earn too by buying recycled things like used plastics/old newspapers/empty bottles and other which they sold for a profit to recycling/junk shops. I'm really happy to hear that you do your share too and your good intention to help the Church mission.

We sort things out according to what will be accepted at the transfer station. We do not get paid for it, but it is still a good thing to do to keep the stuff out of the landfills.

I can make a trip to another town and sell aluminum cans, but I need to have a lot for it to be worthwhile to go. I keep a special container for them. I wish more things could be sold.

Hi ronadelle! That's a really good practice! In our house we also separate those which can be recycled and sold. These include plastic bottles, tin cans, boxes, and glass bottles. There is someone who always come into our house and buy these scraps. So it's convenient for us. We don't know anyone however, or a junk shop for that matter, who buys plastics such as plastic bags, plastic wrappers, the plastic bags of junk foods and chips, and all that. We still separate it though, before we give all our garbage to the garbage collector.

Yes, we've been doing that a couple of years already. Earnings from selling junk can add up and give some extra money and salvage value for the things that we buy. Segregation has always been a habit now for us in our home. It is a nice activity to do because not only you earn, you help to save the environment by recycling wastes. Keep it up and fulfill your responsibility to our mother nature!

Yep! That is the way to go! There is money in garbage. But yes, I do earn a decent amount of money from selling those plastic bottles. Many street children do this as a living, hence, it can really give out some good earnings if done properly. It's a great thing that people are now aware of recycling and making money out of this junk items.

I do separate waste. In UK this is not duty but I think most people do it. I have two bins. One is for recycling stuff and second is for anything else. I like to do it because I think about future of our planet and if I do small things just to safe environment that makes me very happy and useful.

I don't have that much trash, but I separate it, kind of. I save tin food cans for my brother in law, who recycles them and I save aluminum cans for myself. I hardly ever have plastic bottles. I wish there was a good way to recycle odds and ends of paper and cardboard.

You have a good habit. It can be good for our environment as something can be recycled. I also keep the plastic bottles, magazines and newspaper and then sell them. Although the money is quite little, but at least it is a good thing for the environment. I love China

we also practice proper waste segregation. we set aside plastic bottles, metals, and other items that could be sold to the junk shop. we put other non-biodegradable items which could not be sold in the shop in separate plastic bags so it can be collected by the truck.

I recycle in a different way. All that can be turned into compost goes to the compost pile. But it´s not much because I use leftovers so there´s not much waste. I save jars for my jams and even find use in rags. I don´t buy much in plastic bottles and many of them I turn into plant containers.

For as long as I can remember, aluminum cans have been separated from other things that are no longer useful in the home because those could be taken to the recycling center for a little bit of extra money. However, when we moved into our house a few years ago, we have seperate pickup for recycling and also for general trash. Well, that means that I put everything that is recycleable into the blue bin and the rest of the things go into the trash. I do it because it is good for the earth and also because it is convenient for me.

I always take care of the refundable cans and bottles, which I bring to the store for cashing out money. Paper and other things I try to put in separate stacks. There are big containers where you can put paper, plastic, card board, glass etc. in places around the town.

I separate my garbage, the papers and other trash that can't be sold are thrown into the compost pit while the cans, glass and plastic bottle in a sack for sale. There are some can, glass and plastic bottle collectors roaming around in our community who buy these things.

We don't get paid for recycling. However, there are some communities nearby that will fine you if you do not recycle. We separate our waste in the following manner: Biodegradable, "food safe": Goes to the compost pile. Plastics 1 & 2 & metal: Go to the curb to be picked up on trash day. Plastics 3-7: taken twice a month to the transfer station. Paper: Goes up to the school's big recycling bin, they get a small amount of money per pound of paper recycled. (A lot of churches and apartment complexes have these as well. The apartment complexes have the funds donated to their local school district) Unrecycleable Waste goes in a trash bag to the curb. Usually one full kitchen size bag every two weeks.

Yes I do separate the bottles, plastic bottles, cans and all those that can be sold. I store them in separate sacks and every time the sacks are filled I sell them to the nearby junkshop. With this I am converting those garbage into some additional grocery money.
