The other day I watched a documentary about the life and journey about someone's car. Many things and memories were created in that car and in the end that person had to decide if he wants to put it in the dump or scrap up some money to get it 'fixed' if it can be fixed. Have you ever been attached to a car like that? Have you ever cried when you parted with a particular car? Is this more common for men then women? Have you had an attachment like this with a car or even something else? Why or why not?

I think men might be more attached to cars than most women are. Men have their hot rods and their fixer uppers too. Ones they have worked on since they were young. I think women go more in for shoes, purses, acessories. Men more into mechanics and cars. Just my idea. Have seen this since the 50's hotrods.

It seems so! I remember a man always was out polishing his mustang every single day and he'd spend hours out there. I used to just watch him from my balcony hahaha. So do you have any cars that gave you a lot of good memories?

Yes my very first car, I was very much attached to it. I had it for a very long time, and although not new I treated it as if it were. I sold it to a family member after I was able to buy another one. I cried like a baby because being a teen and working two jobs to get it hurt me knowing that no one would treat it like I did. Sadly the family member destroyed it in a few months thereafter.

How sad! But that is a good reason to be attached to it.. it shows how much you worked for it and it's your solid proof of it. May it rest in peace~.

I've scrapped so many cars in my lifetime that I can wave them off with gay abandon now. The only thing which hurts is my wallet.

I am not very attached to places or things. I get attached to people and animals. I don't know why I am that way, my parents weren't. But I have always loved animals even more than I love people, I guess I trust the animals never to hurt me emotionally like humans do.

I don't think that I could ever be attached to something like a car. However I do in fact know many people who their cars were just slightly of less importance than their own children. And a couple who were of more so, sad as it is to say. But there you go, that is just the way things are going to be. There are a lot of men who do love their cars. I'm sure some of them would marry them or do something else to them, if they could. I don't think that I can get attached to an inanimate object such as a car. Cars much like anything will run out of time eventually. To the point where it cannot be saved. I think that this is extremely common with men but I would not be surprised to see more than a handful of woman as well. You just never know with some people. You just never know.

True! I actually was very surprised when I watched the documentary but if I look back at my own car, it did help me get to different points in my life. Maybe if it's taken from me, I will become a little sad. But not more than any of my animate loved ones.

I had an attachment like that. I had a great little car that ran great. I got married and my husband wanted me to trade that car in for a family car. I cried and cried over that car because it ran beautifully and it was paid for... I listened to him and later he lost his job and I couldn't do everything and the car get repossessed.

I have had an attachment to a car years ago. It was my baby. I had a 1983 Lincoln MarkVI. I loved that car and wish I still had it today. I wound up getting rid of it for a real stupid reason, and I felt sick afterwards. I didn't cry over it, after all, it is only a machine. But I do have good memories with that car. I have moved on and owned many new cars after that. But I still have pictures of it.
