How do you make your computer run faster without deleting files or programs?

Of course deleting old files or programs that you no longer use is one effective way to speed up your computer. Adding up new hardware like putting more ram is also another way. But other ways to speed up the computer. Like mine for example I run msconfig and delete unimportant start up programs to speed up my computer during start up. I also increase the computer's virtual memory in system properties and set visual effects to best performance for better processing speed of the programs. I perform disk defragment once a week to speed up my computer more and of course clear internet history once a week for better speed in surfing the web. Sometimes I use the program windows smoker to even increase my computer's performance. So what's your own trick to speed up your computer?

i've experience the same problem when i was using windows, but after i use linux, my computer never slow down even after two years from the first time i install them. I think Mac OS X is the same, they wouldn't slow down either. I don't know what the reason is but windows seems to get slower after we use them for a while.

Ok.. windows xp should work fast in that computer depending on how you configure it or on how you manage your files. 40GB hard disk space is too small these days you better increase your disk space. try buying a 80GB or higher and set the virtual ram (page file) to 1GB or more. I think it will run your computer faster that way. Also try setting up system properties adjusting it to best performance. And of course your what antivirus do you use? antivirus slows down your computer when it is running. What games do you install?

What windows is it? And the system specs of your computer? Windows vista or 7 will surely slow down your computer if you install it on an old computer. I haven't tried mac or linux but I think many programs are not compatible with linux and a few for mac. Many programs run perfectly in windows that's why i use windows and I will never switch to other OS.

Same as what you do. Though do take note that 32 bit systems can only use up to 3GB of RAM, so even if you have an 8GB RAM but you're running on a 32-bit OS, your computer will just be using 3 GB. It's an unfixable bug. I've done all of what you did and my computer (in the office) is working really fast. I increased my page file (virtual memory) to 4GB though I think only 3GB will be used due to the 32-bit limit. One thing that I'd love to try would be creating a RAM-DISK. if you have a spare 512MB in your RAM, you can make it a "static" disk and point a program to use it as storage. Retrieval is faster since the data is in the RAM. Downside is that if your computer suddenly powers down, you loose the data

sorry, my bad, should have used "limit" instead of "bug". I'm currently running a 32-bit OS on my office laptop. I am planning to use a 64-bit one on our desktop computer at home though.

Mine is currently 64bit so no problem if I try to increase my ram. I think that 32-bit limiting computers to 3GB is not a bug it's the maximum capacity of an OS. Same to what I have experienced before with regards to old PC's in which it has only 24-bit and When I try to upgrade it's ram to 1GB when I try to check its memory it shows only 512mb. I tried several attempts fixing it but nothing seems to work then later I learned that it's the computers limit. It was and old PC manufactured way back 2001.

I think nothing seems wrong with the 32bit system compare to 64bit some difference is about color or graphics quality. Currently my system is 64bit and my ram is 2GB only but still thanks for the info of that limit. I have no idea that 32bit system can only handle 3GB of ram. I'm also planning to increase my ram(desktop memory is cheaper).

I use gamebooster by iobit. It temporary shuts down unnecessary processes and it clean and intensifies your RAM and increases the performance up to 90%.

like rambooster? Well windows smoker also stops unnecessary processes to improve gaming performance. You'll only be forced to use that if your ram is less than 1GB depending on what certain game you are playing. 3D game nowadays require up to 2GB ram really not suitable to play in old PC's..

Yeah.. once a week mostly. I also clearing up certain files that i don't use. I'm downloading huge files via torrent and after downloading I transfer them to DVD so that I my laptop will have more disk space for faster and better performance.

I just downloaded cc cleaner. It instantly clean your computer which makes the browsing fast. It deletes cookies, browsing history and even empty your recycle bin. But you have the option whether you like to empty your recycle bin. You can use it everyday before shutting down the computer.

Download Uniblue Powersuite 2011. It brings 3 softwares that help you to remove useless files, that you don't even know that they're exist, and other things. It will definitely speed up you pc. And update your drivers too. I have it and I can aprove that it works. Besides, it doesn't take much space. Rod

as long as you maintain at least 100 gigs of harddisk space for virtual memory, i think there's no need to delete files and programs but be sure that the programs are not the start-up-running type of programs when the computer OS starts.... for the WindowsXP users.... just go to control panel, performance and maintenance, free-up space on your harddisk that's it....

Recommended virtual memory or page file of a computer is two times it's current memory(ram) so I think having a 100GB of page file is too much. If you have 2GB memory then all you need is 4GB or 5GB of virtual memory. That's what I read from most computer forum sites. Happy lotting:)

Hello, I do not know if this will work for you. Here is my way of speeding up my own personal computer. First, my computer has ASUS as motherboard and i got intel c2q 2.9 GHZ and 4G RAM. ASUS motherboard has software to overclock my processor. When I turn on overclock, the speed of my processor goes up from 2.9 GHZ to 3.2 GHZ!. I can also push overclock to maximum but I do not recommend it because the processor is already running above its rated speed which is 2.9 GHZ. I let ASUS software autodetect the safe overclock settings. If you want to overclock your processor, check your motherboard manual and website if your motherboard support overclock. Most people will not recommend overclocking because it might damage the processor. But if you are willing to take the chance and if you have money to buy a new unit if you accidentaly fry your computer. USE AT YOUR OWN RISK! do not blame me if you fried your computer. again Use at your own risk!

I know that. I posted that already above and that's what I do most of the time. It's very effective way to speed up windows start up. That's what most people doesn't know about making their computer run very slow during start up because many applications run simultaneously during start up.

i think first of all,use antivirus for high speet because of temporary files and viruse, your computer permance give slow performance,,and after it,u check your destskop it must be like empty, and because your currently programmes runs on your ram,so you think about your ram that it must be 2 gb or 4 gb,if yoyr ram is big, then it is automatically high up your computer speed, you have a ,good motherboard and processor
