Dollar General Job - Need Advice/Suggestions

Well, today is Monday and I am stuck with the decision of whether I should call the assistant manager today, or wait.
When I called last Monday, the assistant manager told me that she is waiting on my background information to get back, and that she would call me once it does.
However, it's been exactly one week, and I have not heard anything from her. I know most simple background checks should not take more than a week, but some are delayed and can take a bit longer.
I am not sure if I should call to check if the background information is back, or if I should just wait for her to call me. Since she said she would call me back, I am afraid that calling her would make her think I do not listen, follow instructions, etc. And, I do not want to seem impatient, eager, or bothersome.
I am just excited, and of course want to know the status of my application/employment ASAP! I just don't want to ruin my chances of getting the job by bugging the employer.
What do you guys think?
Should I call today (one week from last call) or wait until next Monday, which will be two weeks from the last time I spoke with the employer. Or, this Wed.?
Suggestions please!?

I'm kind of torn here. On the one hand, calling them will show that you really want to work. But on the other hand they told you to wait. I wonder if they really did a background check or just told you that to get rid of you? It seems to me that a week is plenty of time to hear something. I think I would keep looking for a job and then take the one that calls you first.

Several good points but she has nothing else to loose here as calling again, but not leaving it open ended will at least give her a definitive answer.

I doubt they just said they were doing a background check to get rid of me... because she needs a couple of morning cashiers quickly (they just opened), and I am the only one... or at least one of only a couple people who applied. Therefore, I think I have a really good chance.

Maybe waiting until mid-week. If they haven't called by then it can't hurt.

You waited the week that it usually takes to do a background check. You are being patient, thing is she did say to wait that she would call you. They know you will probably call them back again if you are that interested in the job. If they want you calling them isn't going to make a difference since you have waited.
I would myself probably wait until tomorrow to call, give them an extra day. Make the call either way since a week has gone by.
There is something else you can do, is if you need something from a store go there and see if someone is around. Maybe talk to the manager. It is another way to find out.

If it is close enough for you, and you could pick up some stuff you may need. I know dollar general has good deals.. you never know what you will find there..lol
While there find out how it is going with the background check, has it come through yet. In other words don't ask about job, ask about the check see how it is going.

Thank you.
I think I just might do that. Probably Wednesday would be a good day to stop by.

Hmm, that's a good idea. I could stop by and tell them I thought I'd check on the status while I am there.

Personally I would sometime in the afternoon, give her a call. Yes it will seem like you are bugging her but really what it is doing is giving that extra push to get her to speed up the process. I know here depending on the companies it can take up to 15 days, some like in the hospital I use to work at took 24 hours but we use to pay extra for that.
As someone who hired hundreds of people, I can tell you how during my very busy days I use to get so many people pester me for status. However, it was those people that I knew were very interested in working. Plus because of my stressful and busy schedule it is what got me to prompt an interview for them.
Therefore, if you do not hear from her by today, I would nicely call and immediately introduce yourself and say, I am really sorry that I am continually inconveniencing you but I am truly interested in work at your store. You have nothing to loose, and it could very well be that she is so busy she can't seem to get around to a free moment. At worse she will say it is still not back yet, do not end the call there and immediately say, I really do not mean to inconvenience you, can you give me a time frame so I can call you back again?

But Angelee, this is a tough market right now for employees to get a job, not calling means that someone else will and that could potentially cause you to loose out. Believe me if I was applying there and you, I would call.
The early bird is the one that catches the worm, though I understand it is yet more difficult for you to get just any job around you as you say they are really scarce. Remember that and how many others are also, looking for work who will be daring to call.
At worse my friend it will give you an idea if this is totally a lost job avenue venture. The waiting with the what if has to be far more difficult.

The only thing that is making me afraid to call is the fact that she said she would call me when the information comes back. I don't want her to get aggravated, and be like "No, the information is not back. I told you I would give you a call when it comes back." ... then, she may never call me back because I didn't listen.

Ugh... I really want to call, but at the same time I really don't want to ruin my chances of getting this job.
You never know how some employers are about things like this. You may have been fine with it, but some employers might not see it how you did when you were hiring people.

I personally, would call her back. I don't feel that by calling she would think that you don't listen to direction, etc. In these trying times, she should know that people need jobs and should expect you to call and check the status of your application. I know I would. I may also show that you really want the job. In my days of working, ( I don't anymore) I would bug the crap out of her until I got an answer.

i think you should give it one or two more days before you call again if you have not heard anything by then call back and ask to speak to her and just expain that you really need to know wrether or not you got the job as soon as possable that you really need the job and if they do not let you know something soon you will be forced to start looking for another job if you call and they say you did not get the job i would cuss them for all they are worth for making you wait then you should send their corperate office an email explaining what happened complaining about how you were treated and give the managers name and location of the dollar general i know that where i work if someone goes through the corperate office that employee gets in big trouble wrether they are a manager or not

Cowgirl, this day and age, we have to wait to see if we get a job now. Not a good idea to cuss anyone out no matter what, you can actually go to jail now days for that or be sued. Not a good idea especially if you need work. With the technology of today most likely you are also being recorded and or videoed for their own protection. Works both ways.
I waited three weeks once for a job, I called once a week, to find out information on the job. I was nice, asked how the interviews were going, have they had any luck choosing from everyone that applied. They called me in for a second interview and I got the job .. the reason I am not working now is because of carpal tunnel syndrome.. sucks but something I will deal with and figure out what to do next. Not easy.

Umm, thanks for the response... but I don't believe I am going to take your advice.
It's not appropriate to cuss people out (especially employers) just because you don't get what you want.
They're not treating me badly, so I wouldn't do all that to them.

I think it's alright to call her back today. What's impt is that you must not sound anxious or desperate as she might be able to sense it. Gd luck to you and hv a great wk!:)
