Which is more damaging, a Roundhouse Kick or a Side Kick?

Why most of the different martial arts disciplines of these days prefer to use a Roundhouse Kick rather than a Side Kick?
Which is more damaging?

I think roundhouse kick is more damaging coz you get to target on the upper part of the body or the head. And I think the head is one of the most fragile part so it is more damaging.
I used to do Taekwondo and I preferred roundhouse kicks to Side kicks. I could never do side kicks properly, it was confusing.

Yeah used to do it but not anymore but well I am thinking of continuing again coz it was really intense and helped me stay fit. Even the warm ups were intense.
But wow I wasn't that advanced and could never do the rapid kicks you have mentioned.

i think roundhouse kick more damaging but i think that's not the main reason people prefer to use it... i think roundhouse kick is less predictable and someone can get confused when the opponent suddenly rotate their body and throw some kick.
