Our work experiences have great impact on our performances today. I worked in a large manufacturing company as a payroll clerk. That was my very first job and it was very far from my hometown. I learned to be a part of a team, to do work and finished it before the target time or else, everyone will be mad because they did not receive their pay, and to deal with so much people. I also learned to make an extra mile just to makes things done like volunteering to our bank to help them put the salary of our personnel in envelopes because of problems with computer.
Well, my second job is as Secretary/Bookkeeper in a Non Government Organization. It's a lot of adjustment because we are only 5 in the office unlike my previous job. We have to do double work and to assist each other in order to finish a project. But it was a very fulfilling job because I got the chance to help other not only a particular individual but a whole community. We gave them seminars, workshop, exposure, hands-on training, and travel to strengthen the groups set up by the community. We teach them to stand for themselves and not relying on donations as funds. We link them to foreign donors and taught them to do Project Proposal and Financial Projections. I feel happy everytime I see the old folks still active in the community and had several successful proposal and still using the same formula we taught them. While doing it, I became more aware of the accounting system because we are abiding the accounting procedure of the U.S. funder and had a periodical audit. These I think had brought me to do my work as proficient as how I was trained to do it.
For my third and fourth job which does not last long, I think I learned to value my work today. That the next job would be a permanent one, the one where I would retire in the future.
Please share your work experiences and what it taught you...
