What to eat when you are underweight. I’m been an underweight all my life, short of 5 to 7 pounds off my ideal weight. Now that I’ve resigned from work I thought I’d gain some weight, I just gained 2 pounds for a period of 3 months. They say my metabolism is fast, because I do eat a lot, but I’m not gaining weight. Now that I have no work I am always hungry so I always eat all the time, and sleep a lot. Help me, what should I do to increase my weight.

You don't say how old you are. I have for all of my life and I'm almost 55 been always skinny. I'm 120 to 125 lbs now. Depending on your age becareful what you wish for. I too have a very fast metabolism and when I was in my early thirty I was weighing about 100lbs no more then 106 lbs. If you are a teenager then its ok but if you are in your twentys be careful because you don't want to slow down your metabolism where you keep gaining and you can't get to a good weight again. I'm very happy with my weight at my age but I know people who as they aged their metabolism slowed down alot and they kept putting on the weight and now they can't get rid of it. However, if you are very young I would try milkshakes that seems to help put on some weight. Just becareful when it comes to playing around with your metabolism.

i'm 42yrs old, female with 4 kids, my weight is 90-92lbs, height 5'1/2"ft. My ideal weight is 97-100lbs. I only reach that weight after giving birth, maintain it for 3 years then after that, it's like automatic my body returns to 90-92lbs after 3 years.

That is what happened to me after my first baby I went t 120 lbs from 100lbs but then went down to 95lbs after giving birth. That is something else to be that age and that underweight after 4 kids. Well I would drink milkshakes & banana splits. There are some type of shakes to build up weight but I can't remember the name of it. I would check at Walgreens or Walmart. I wish you luck in gaining the weight you want to.

It is the very opposite of me. I have been battling with my weight for ages and I never seems to go down. I've tried all sorts of diets but all failed. I only take two meals per day ie breakfast and lunch or dinner but nothing seems to change. I am still overweight. You should count yourself lucky to be able to eat anything and maintain your weight. Don't worry as you age, you will put on weight. Just be patient.

that's what my friends says also, that as I age my metabolism will slow down and i'll start to gain weight. My other friends have started to gain weight, i'm still waiting for mine to happen.

Eat 3000+ calories per day. It doesn't really matter what you eat, if you are eating that many calories every day, your weight will go up. High calorie foods? Meat, oil, grease, sugar, fats... if you're having over 3000 calories per day, it will be really easy for you to go up in weight. Go to a site like thecaloriecounter.com to look up how many calories are in different foods

You can use isostar for extra calories. Also is it important to know what you eat now to find out the right diet for you. Sounds to me you have a lot of stress while you have no work and this can make you loose weight easier too. Not everyone has the same metabolism. And also we all can't have the same perfect weight. It has to belong to your body as well. You can eat more fat this will help you to take away the hungry feelings so does a lot of fruit (no candies), but it will take some days till 3 weeks till you have result from that. Porridge is a good one for extra calories too btw. If this doesn't help I would advice you to visit a dietist or doctor to find if there is something wrong with your bodyfunctions/metabolism.

We are the same. I am also underweight, and it got worse when I started to work in the office. I tried everything, I eat a lot, but I guess it will not be effective if we are working because we get tired from it. It's a good time to gain weight now that you have resigned from work. I tried eating healthy foods, like vegetables, fish, protein, and fruits. It didn't help me, but I think it will be effective for you since you will take a break from work.

One simple thing you can do include ripen bananas into your diet. Have banana with curd (yogurt) rice. And while going to bed in the night have one banana and take one full glass of milk

Ugh, I wish I had that problem. I'm joking, I know that being underweight can be a serious medical condition. I have friends that seem like their metabolism is so high that as soon as they eat something, they're hungry again. Have you thought about going to see a nutritionist so they can help you gain some weight in a healthy way? I know the biggest problem with people gaining weight is that they are constantly being unhealthy. Also, if you do weight workouts, this may help because muscles actually weight more than fat.

Hi! Eat more foods rich in carbohydrates and protein. I was underweight before and now I am normal. I only knew it when we computed my BMI on our nutrition class and I'm glad I was able to correct it.

Hai.. nice to listen that you gained 2pounds.Try having fruit juices two times a day. Have coke with KFC, have a lot of water to be healthy. And dont try to gain weight immediately. All the best.

Well that's a good start. At least you've already started gaining pounds. Your metabolism might be really fast. You should eat more rice because that can help you in gaining additional weight. Have enough rest.
