What does it take to cheer you up?

I came home from Minnesota with a cold and felt really dreary and down yesterday morning. The mail came in the afternoon, and I got a new ID badge for a new job. NOT the other one that I posted about, but one I applied for two or three weeks ago. After the initial contact they had sent me papers to sign and upload, and I had sent direct deposit information to them, and even had to send a picture for an ID badge. The next step was they were going to call and interview me. Kind of backwards, right? It has been about two weeks since I sent all my signed forms in an e mail.I had heard absolutely nothing. Getting that badge in the mail really made my day. The job will be another contract labor job, and it will pay about twice as much as the one I know I have. It will be reviewing the status of certain retail establishments and I will make my own schedule. Anyway, getting the name badge certainly made my day and turned my attitude around for the day. I will have two very flexible part time jobs. One that pays good and one that pays better. You cannot beat that. What would cheer you up right now?

Reading this post GG really has topped my day! It is always wonderful to hear that good people are finally getting the jobs that they deserve! I was feeling really blue as it is my birthday and so many supposed love ones are so generic towards me these days. Then I right when I was about to tear, out of frustration my daughter skypes me! Hooray that made me feel 100% better and it was only 9am in the morning. So since then no matter how much my brain has wanted to divert into a depressing mode today I continue to remember that happy smiley face on skype today and it brings me back to my senses.

I wish we could throw you a big virtual party. I know a full time job would be more ideal for you, but maybe you could get some of this contract labor work, or do some writing online. I always wish I could fix things for everyone.

All of us will get our time soon, I am confident that sometimes we must go through things in life before, it can actually pick up for us. I am looking into what you recommended on the other post. Good luck GG and am really happy for you.

Thank you for the bithday wishes and I will looking into hubpages soon as well. Congrats on all your prize winnings and hope you continue to win. I am on Triond and although the monthly payout is 50 cents I usually manage to make $2 - $6, just with the five articles I have on the site. So I will take a look at yours soon.

What would really cheer me up right now, besides my son and/or I getting a job, is if if the money is quickly transferred onto my netspend card so I can order a wireless router. Because next week I am working towards getting a laptop...

@Carmela I know you have to work hard to get that laptop. I thought you were getting some housecleaning work . . . do you need more work? I need more than just the product demos, that is why I am anxious for this other job to pick up. I like that I will still have flexibility, even with both of them.

Hi HWG and Gerty, it is actually a "new" laptop, but my other neighbor, her in laws are coming down next week and her mother on law is one of those people who expects a perfectly clean home, so she need help, even though she has a really nice home and it isn't that dirty, it is even cleaner than more homes that have both a cat and dog. Anyway, I will have a choice of three laptops, 2 of which her children have downloaded something and all they need is reformatted, and the other one doesn't hold a charge because the cord is messed up. I will have my son look at them, because he can reformat computers, or maybe he or my husband can replace/fix the cord. I know these people too, they buy the best in computers and really though the computers still kind of work, their dad decided to buy everyone an Apple, so they don't even use them anymore.. @Gerty, I hear you, I would love a job with flexibility, that is why I love school so much, because I can work on my assignments whenever as long as I get them done before the due date. As for the housecleaning work, yes, that is another neighbor and I usually go on Thursdays, but last night she asked me to come in on Friday, so I can going to be here today..And working on my English comp too..lol

That is excellent that you have two casual jobs that you are happy with. What would cheer me up up right now? Two things I guess. One would be to hear that I have a new job starting in about three weeks time. Realistically, I have only just started appling for jobs, and I am not expecting to hear if I have interviews at this stage. More likely in a week or two. I am applying for quite a promising job at the moment. The other thing that would cheer me up is meet a nice man.

Jenny, I met my nice man through a singles news paper. It had a good way of keeping your privacy private and I felt really safe that way. @airkulet, it is good to be home when your children are home.

Yes gardengerty, actually I took advantage now that I'll have more time with him, I know that children nowadays have really grown really fast and their interest have been keep on changing.Who knows that if he became 18 years old and wanted to be independent and make his own living, and I'll be left here alone, at least we've been together while he was so young!

A half day subbing an easy class for tomorrow and some ice cream. I didn't eat much today. I have some money to buy food tomorrow. Mostly stuff I can't eat in the house right now. Like tomato based products and salt.

AAAHHH,Maple Walnut, so delish! I wish I lived next to the Dairy (actual cow farm) that makes ice cream. They turn one batch a day. They make extra. So the fresh is only one flavor, but the cartons are the extra from each day. So if you don't like the flavor of the day, you can buy yesterday's or the day before's or whatever.

You must be on top of the world right now! Yay! I'm so happy for you! I've gotten all my good news for the time being. Start my new job in a few days. Really hoping I like it. I'm a bit worried that I'll hate it or something. I was told that the first few weeks are going to really be terrible with all the training. Guess we'll just have to see how it goes. I should be really excited still, but I'm just nervous and anxious. Hearing that my FIL is placed in an assisted living place and will not be coming back home would also help my mood!! He keeps falling and getting infections, but the hospital keeps sending him home! Apparently he's blacking out now, and gets up, rips out his IV's, walks around bleeding all over the place, and doesn't remember doing it.. but they're still sending him home! It's getting to be way too much to handle. We've got enough on our plates right now.. so he really needs to be somewhere where he can receive the care he needs.

Is he a veteran? You may be able to go through that route to get him a placement. Does your husband have durable power of attorney for health care? If so he can talk with social services at the hospital. With his terminal diagnosis you can call in Hospice and they will advocate for him and his best interests. I know that is a lot to think about while you are learning a new job, but I think it will help if you can do that. Most insurances cover the cost of Hospice.

gee katsmeow I am so sorry to hear that and it keeps happening that people need more care but cannot get it because of one or two things that do not jibe with the rules. sad.sounds like you are stymied at every thing you think would help him. I am in an assisted care retirement home but he sounds like he needs much more than they offer in a place like this.We have no medical staff here thus anyone gets to need more care they must be put in some sort of nursing facility instead.I will send some prayers that you find a way to gethim into the care he needs. mylot prayers when all combine do carry power

Yes he is a veteran, and he is at the VA, and they have a floor for nursing home type patients where they stay and don't go home.. but they said they can't take him. Something to do with his illness isn't due to combat or he didn't spend enough time in combat or something. Yes my husband has power of attorney and yes he has spoken to a social worker which hasn't helped. Yes we've tried hospice. They told us he's not eligible for hospice because he's still receiving transfusions (which are keeping him alive, it's like telling someone to stop breathing!) and 2 someone needs to live with him in order to get hospice. Not sure why.

I don't know if you know this but I have always had help around to take care of household chores. I do have a gardener and someone who comes three times a week but I want yet another who could stay with us and take care of the entire place in a manner that I am used to. I have not had a good home made desert for sometime now. Someone who can make my favourite chocolate mousse would really cheer me up.

Stop! I am trying to stick to a second day of a new diet which I blew last night because we had to attend a meeting at a pizza parlor. But I did eat only half as much pizza as at the last meeting and had a salad. It was the coke that did me in. On the new diet I'm not supposed to eat grains or sugar. I still can't think of anything to eat but nuts and fruit for breakfast. I can't eat anything I usually snack on. So let's not talk about delicous chocolate, OK?

Congrats on the new job, Garden!! Well, anything that would help my financial status would be sure to put a smile on my face! Times are tough and I try not to worry too much. I'm glad you got the job and well..you are happy so I'm happy for you! Actually, I smile easily so it doesn't take much at all to pull me out from a bad spot, thankfully. A funny comment, a few kind words, a big ole hug...usually any of those will do the trick for me. I'm not one to get down in the dumps but I have been there and it feels horrible. So much so that I will do anything to get myself out of that spot. I feel really bad for those that suffer depression and can't get back up. I don't really understand it having not experienced it but it has to be painful. I'm so glad that things are looking up for you! You deserve it!

Yes, sometimes this place cheers me too. Especially the humorous comments but also the kind and thoughtful ones. I'm sorry that your husband suffered depression. The moments that I've been down and out tell me that it just has to be a really painful place to be stuck in. I can't even imagine. Well, can't wait to hear your good news and just remember...I'm only a PM away if you ever need to talk. Ok?

Congratulation on your new job. It always nice to work with your own schedule. I wish I had that option. Well, I am not complaining since I have a steady job myself. It's just that sometimes I wish I stay home for some days or getting to the office late according to my own schedule... Lately I have been down with boredom of going to the office. A trip somewhere might help. Unfortunately I have used all my annual leave due to me this year...

@ airkulet, it is nice to have a hoe base business but I don't think I am ready for it. AS for working online from home is not an option here in Indonesia cause our internet connection is not stable and so pricey. Just at the moment we have an issue nationally that the telecom providers are ripping us of some credit money from our cellphones and internet... @ gardengerty, it would be a good job and a good earning for you.

What a blessing! Not one job, but two. What would cheer me up is finally getting excused from jury duty for the year. I've been on call since Monday, and have to check the web site again tomorrow noon to see if I have to appear tomorrow. If I'm not lucky enough to get my cheer that way, getting a really great inspiration for something to write for the new HubPages contest would cheer me immensely. I haven't written a poem in years, and I'd like to get the inspiration for one.

Do enter the contest. It would be great if you published a winner. I got off to a very slow start on HubPages. I had only about nine hubs when I entered the first contest. I was really surprised to win a daily and weekly prize. After that I wrote a couple more and then got busy back on Squidoo again. Then they had another contest and I started writing more, including another winner. I felt bad about that contest though, because it was judged by a vote on Facebook that worked through an app. I was very diappointed in the results of the last week of that contest, since I thought the wrong person won. This November contest won't be judged that way. Maybe they got enough negative feedback to forget about contests where networking skills mean more than quality writing. I don't mind a daily winner who wins by luck of the draw. But when half your friends can't vote for you because they don't want to join Facebook, and even the ones on Facebook don't want to allow the app you need to vote, it isn't quite an even playing field. I'm afraid if I win anything this time it will be by luck of the draw, since I don't yet have any great ideas.

I think now my main priority is my new house which took me ages to renovate and putting in new furniture. I entrusted a contractor to renovate my house but he did a messy job and I've to takeover the renovation myself. Everyday I've to shuttle between my present dwelling to my new house to oversee the workers, giving them instruction of what to do. I've never done such a major building works and I discovered that I am capable of doing it without much problem. I am happy to see the end result of my own ideas.
