Another seminar and workshop

India

I have been invited to attend a 15 day seminar and workshop on ‘Ultrasonics’, in December 2011 in a University in north India; Ultrasonics is my subject of specialization. The ‘student and teacher’ in me is tempting me to register for this and attend, but the ‘illness, health issues’ in me is telling me to avoid this. I am in a conflict state of mind, my wife and sons say, I must avoid journey and stay alone in a far place for 15days. Guess they are right, I should avoid going for seminars, lectures, workshops. Please suggest what to do? Please comments on this. . Thanks in advance. Professor ‘Bhuwan’. . 19/10/2011

While it is certainly difficult to pass up a seminar that has to do with your field of interest, I think that you are right to pass this one up because of the health issues that you've been dealing with. It is much more important to take care of yourself than it is to learn more about your field of interest. There will be other seminars in the future but if you don't maintain your health then there is no way that you would be able to attend those.

Hello Papa! What an honor to have been invited to the 15 day seminar. But I have to agree with Maa and say you must take very good care of your health first. It is sad that you cannot attend but knowing that you are highly respected where they are inviting you must be very exciting. Remember that after the seminar it will leave you way too drained and unable to cope for weeks on end. So it is best that although you may want to do this, that you remember your health must come first. Have a great Friday!

dear dada, I guess you should stop and rest. Why the need for those seminars. Why not enjoy and relax instead than stressing yourself too much. Enough of those lectures and seminars...and stay with maa

People are always asking "will you be able to retire". They are referring to finances of course. When I say no they tell me how they can help me get there! I don't want to get there! I don't want to stop doing what I love! But if my health and illness got in the way so badly my direct family would be scared if I continue, personally I would stop. But you are the only one who can make that decision. Which would be worse? Missing what you love to do, or your loved ones missing you?

hi professor! for you health condition you need to follow what the doctor and your family say because it is really difficult to have a patient who doesn't listen to his doctor and a family :) i know what you feel that the seminar is important but i think it is much more important is your health rather than this seminar i can suggest that have fun with your family and try to concentrate to other activities.

Hi Professor, I do understand your passion for Ultrasonics and how much you want to attend this seminar and workshop. But it is not a seminar / workshop for a couple of days... 15 days are definitely a longer period and I sincerely request you to take care of your health first. I am sure there may be more seminar/ workshop near your city or within your city some other time. So why take risk of staying alone for two weeks, travel and moreover you can call for a video recorded CD/DVD of the whole event at a later date. Your family's concern is very much natural and so please take good care of yourself and enjoy Diwali..

I go to workshops, lectures and seminars all of the time, and I don't mind it. I always manage to learn something from them.

Hi friend, i am sorry to know about your health problems and hope that you get well soon... I can understand well the situation in which you are and have often experienced it too, always what your family members say is for your good but your interests resists them, but from the experiences i have had, i would advice you to take rest because health is the most precious thing of life and we should not let anything harm it, so its better to stay away take care happy posting

Why can't someone go with you? Then if something happens they would be there to help you. You can't completely limit your life and not do the things you enjoy. If you do you will become depressed like me and believe me that is not fun at all and not a way to live your life. I would try going to one with someone and see how it goes.

I understand you are worrying and your family people are worried over your health --especially itching problem. This issue will be sorted out by December. you can hope to be alright and go for proper medication for diabetes. Attend the seminar --you will learn a lot and may be able to teach others in your place afterwards.

Hi Professor I think only you know how you feel. You have gone to other seminars. I guess you could judge by how well you tolerated previous seminars. If you are in a great deal of pain and immobility, it might be best to stay home. Yet I would hate for you to miss something you would love going to.
