Colin Farrell plays Syracuse, an Irish fisherman who was a drunkard but sober for more than two years. He's divorced and his daughter, Annie lives with his wife and her new boyfriend.
One day when he was fishing at sea, he caught a woman in his net who introduced herself as Ondine (the name of the woman who came from the sea) and refused to be seen by anybody except for Syracuse. Syracuse was so bewildered because the woman had not drowned and even came back to life. He told the story to his daughter but like a fairy tale since he wanted to keep it a secret. Annie, with her wild imagination believed that Ondine was a Selke (water nymph) especially when his father started having big catches when Ondine sings. From there, a romance brewed between Syracuse and Ondine, and even Annie instantly liked her. But the truth about Ondine was a threat to her staying with them forever.
I love this film even though the ending was not what I expected it to be. I actually, did not like the truth behind Ondine, I was disappointed. But I really like how they built up the story from a legend. I like Syracuse's character (well, aside from the fact that Colin Farrell is so handsome with his long hair) because he was falling in love like a kid and I also like Annie's character who spoke like an adult. I don't really like romantic films but this one I really like.

This movie's title has nothing to do with the creature on the film, The creature in this movie is a selke, which is a woman that transforms into a seal. But yeah Iknow the woman is just named Ondine.
I remember watching this movie 2 years ago and I get to watch it cos someone here in mylot suggested meto watch it, How ironic.
The word Ondine, is actually a different creature.
do you remember the TV show AGua Bendita, Thats an ondine...LOL I know its so Random.

There is no creature in the film. But the title is an allusion to the legendary creature, Selke which was mentioned in the movie. So the title has something to do with the creature, Selke. Duh. The woman was believed to be a creature from the sea and Syracuse's daughter thought that the woman was a Selke creature. It wasn't true of course.

Oh, this sounds like a really nice story since it sounds a bit of a fantasy- their names sound Greek too.
I hope I can find the movie online and with subtitles, since I can't understand Irish accent sometimes. I read the ending..and I loved how it ended, it was a surprise too..I never would have expected that out of a "fantasy" movie.

Syracuse was an Irish. I didn't mean that the movie was in Irish language. I meant it was a movie made in Ireland, made by Irish people.
The language was English but their accent was Irish. I downloaded this movie through torrent and I got the torrent from thepiratebay.
