After the 6-1 drubbing at the hands of Man City, Sir Alex did not hold back any punches during the press conference. He said "This was our worst day ever!! Even as a player I have never lost 6-1. That's a challenge for me too!! I can't believe the scoreline." He was also very dismissive of the performance of the defense "The sending off was a killer for us. We kept attacking when we went 4-1 down and we should have just said - We've had our day. I thought with the experience we have got - Rio and Evra - they would have defended more, but we just kept attacking!! So the defeat has really hurt Sir Alex deeply, but he has vowed to come back strong form it!! Cheers! Ram

Yes, it is a statement from Sir Alex Ferguson which synthesizes what happened on the field. Even if it hasn't happened in his whole career, games like this can happen. Usually great teams know how to handle results like this. I think Arsenal recently, or Real last year have shown that they have learned a lot from those games and that they are able to progress after receiving such "lessons".

Yes, Arsenal were thrashed 8-3 by United at Old Trafford. So now the boot is on the other foot. But Arsenal are still recovering from the mental aspects of that thrashing. Their defense is still very very jittery. I think the outcome is just one part, it is just 3 points, but the psychological effect is what is more important in such cases. Cheers! Ram

Actually, my personal experience is that yes at the start of the match the previous result really does not matter. But when you reach the critical moments where you had failed in a previous match, you tend to get nervous. For e.g. if you had conceded a late goal in last few matches, then you start to get nervous during the closing moments of the match and so on. Cheers! Ram

Personally, when I have played football, the result from the previous match was never a factor in my mind. I have always forgot the previous result, even if it was a thrashing defeat. Maybe the press is keeping the feet on that pedal, but I don't see the players thinking too much on it.

win or lose in football is normally...yes, it`s hurt when lost in derby match..but the fact that city is smart when they are brave for attacking MU even play in Old Traforld... it`s weird when Sir Alex Ferguson is unhappy when a visiting team beat them....i don`t know how is the respond of all MU fans...but life must goes on.. i think Sir Alex must to renew his defender...no more vidic and ferdinand in 2 years from now...it`s no doubt that vidic and ferdinand is one of the best duet of defender, but they can cheat that they are more older than 3 years ago

Yes, you are right. Sir Alex will have to change his defensive line-up shortly. I think he needs two solid defenders in the middle of the defense. Rio is definitely ageing and slowing. As far as response is concerned, I think they will take their frustration on any side they play against in the Carling Cup. Cheers! Ram

Man Utd will definitely bounce back from this. I remember many seasons ago, they lost 5-0 to Newcastle and followed it by losing to Southampton 6-2. The critics were working overtime and some wrote the devils' orbituary. However, at the end of season, they were the one lifting the championship. And true champions, they will bounce back stronger after a setback.

Was this in 1989 when people were asking for Sir Alex to quit. But the board kept faith in Sir Alex and as they say the rest is history. He came back to win around 40 odd titles after that. Cheers! Ram

I understand Sir Alex situation at the moment. He is really the most successful coach for Man United who able to pass Liverpool winning record for EPL title.Man United had become strongest and most stable club when he managed red devils. I though he would done something to improve United defend but like you said Rio ferdinand should not played against strong, fast and young players.Hopefully,Sir Alex will improve United very soon and back to winning track and makes English premier league more attractive and competitive.

They already bounced back from the defeat to win the next match in the Carling Cup. They beat Aldershot by 3-0 to progress to the next round in the Cup. Now they will come back to the league. Cheers! Ram

I think no one expected this kind of a result. I too expected Man City to get something out of the game. But I never expected this drubbing. Cheers! Ram
