Pakistan once again dominated the proceedings in second cricket test match against Sri Lanka being played at Abu-Dhabi. At the end Of second day Pakistan are leading by 42 runs with six wickets intact. Sri Lanka winning the toss and electing to bat yesterday were once again rescued by Sangakarra to give some respectability to the total as the top order collapsed like a pack of cards. Sangakarra 78 and Welegedara 48 were 2 main scorers in the innings folded at 239 in 79 overs. Pakistan in reply are 281 for 4 at the end of second day with skipper Misbah-Ul-Haq 40 and night watchman Saeed Ajmal 5 at the crease. Sri Lanka were saved from certain defeat in the first test through the brilliant partnership between Sangakarra and Prasanna Jayawardena. similar such efforts from their front line batsmen will be needed to rescue Sri Lanka once again as Pakistan is poised for a big first innings lead. Could Sri Lanka bounce back into the game? Your views please.

I think Pakistan are in a commanding position in the match. With 6 wickets in hand, they can really build on this lead and make Sri Lanka again bat to save the match. The start of today's play was Azhar Ali who scored an exact hundred before getting out. I think if Pakistan bat well tomorrow, then they can wrap up this match!!
Cheers!

Thank you ram. Pakistan are indeed in a strong position and are expected to win this match comfortably. We can not expect miraculous performances every time from same players as it happened in first test. Sangakarra and Jayawardena saved them from certain defeat. May be if they are lucky some others may perform and save the day for them.

After retirement of Murali,SL is looking a very weak side overall and its not hard to see that they are just playing for draw and not for win. When you have such mindset ,the position SL are in is not surprising. With all due respect to old Pak test team having Wasin Waquar and Inzi also Saqlain, this Pak team is not as good as they are looking against SL.Not so long back they lost to WI which shows the inconsistency. With flat wickets in UAE i dont think we will see results untill SL plays more poorly than they are playing now.

I agree with you grv, with retirement of not only Murali but Vas also, the bowling department of S.L. has gone very weak and they can not win matches with this attack away from home. Their batting line up at the moment is dependent on Sangakarra and Prasanna Jayawardena and we can not expect the same players to chip in everytime. I also agree with you that the present Pak team is not as strong as it used to be. with weak S.L. team Gulf conditions are also helping them. They perform much better here even compared to their own home grounds.
