I'm trying to use one pound of grass fed beef every week. Yesterday I started out using the hamburger to make meatballs so I put egg and oatmeal in it. But that didn't seem right. So I thought about hamburger with two different sauces, mushroom and pesto, then I tought about goulache, and finally beef stroganoff which is what I sort of made. The beef ended up having all kinds of stuff in it from each possibility, mushroom sause and pesto and noodles with paprika and sour cream. My husband came home and it was all done. He tasted it and he liked it. Now keep in mind that he doesn't like mushroom soup, he thinks he doesn't like pseto, but he's never tried it and he doesn't like very much sour cream in anything. Just a little goes a long way.
He also hates leftovers except for stuff made with tomato sauce. Then he says that's better the next day. But he said he would eat more of this tonight.
OK, who are you and what have you done with my husband!?
So have you ever started out to make one thing and then ended up making something else?
Were you ever surprised that someone liked something you made?

I am grateful to have a "Mikey" at home, he eats absolutely anything put before him. lol Yes often I make a mental plan in the morning of what I will be cooking for dinner then as it gets closer to the time I end up making something different.
I do like to plan but changing my mind seems to be happening a lot these days. For instance I think about making rice and end up making noodles instead. I guess it depends on my mood and or hunger.
I pulled out the ground beef on Monday from the freezer and and thought I would make some chilli with some rice on the side, which I know my boyfriend absolutely loves. Instead I made spaghetti with meatballs instead as when it was time to cook the noodles were more tempting. He usually does not ask what we are having for dinner in advance so I am luck in that regard too that I can cook what is to my ever changing mind. lol

Oh so much you could do. Meat loaf, tacos, cheeseburger mac, and stuffed cabbage. My husband was always so picky and now I have him eating so much more. It took a lot of sneaking in foods and when he began to realize how much more he was eating he became more adventurous.

I'm glad I didn't have the list yesterday that you just wrote, goodness knows what we would have ended up with. Maybe a manwich meal (sloopy joes). I love everything with hamburger. I grew up with it once a week so I love your list.
My husband wouldn't eat seafood. But I need to eat it once a week because with my high blood pressure the only salt I should have is from seafood. So he went with me to a seafood place once a week (back when we had money) and ordered their pot roast. It's got very salty gravy, but they do excellent pot roast. One day, sick of pot roast and I had been giving him a bite of my seafood each time, he ordered the fishermen's platter batter fried. I almost fell over. (Another who are you and what have you done with my husband moment)I was expecting him to maybe try one seafood or one fish some day, but he got the entire platter. He actually enjoyed it. Too bad we can't afford it again. But when fish or seafood goes on sale at grocery stores for $2.99 or less a pound, he buys it now for me to cook.
Now if he really liked it, he could have it grilled with a little butter and pepper like I do. But we'll work on that.
Glad both our husbands are eating more variety than they were.
Thanks for responding and take care.

I wish we could eat more fish as the girls and I like it but hubby is deathly allergic to it so I will not even cook it at home.
. We only eat it when we are out, which is not often and a little sad. My 10 year old has a sushi addiction that she has taught to her baby sister who calls it soo-si and eats it like it's going outta style. I make them try new foods every time we are out, it's a rule in our home that you have to at least try something new, you don't have to eat it if you don't like it but you have to try! We make my hubby do it too and it's amazing what everyone ends up likeing.

My Dad had us try a bite of sourcrout (spelling?) each about 4xs a year. We didn't like it. Then one day, our tastes changed I guess and we all liked it. He only had a small can and now 4 chilren wanted some. So he only ended up with a bite. His stratagy to get us to like different foods backfired on him After that he had to buy huge cans.

Oh, I think it happens a lot. It often ends up being soup in the final incarnation. I love good seasonings and many of them seem to improve with a day or two of aging.

I'm not great at soup unless a bone is involved or some broth which we seldom have in the house, so it wasn't likely to turn into soup.

I have no problem feeding my hubby since he eats almost everything. The only time that he will surprise me will be the day that he will not eat anything
. When I cook, I try to stick to recipe as much as I can. The only time that it will change is when I don't have an ingredient or two for the dish.

My husband seems to be getting less picky. I hope the trend continues.
Part of my problem was that I really didn't have everything I needed for each thing. But the combination worked out well. Thanks for dropping by and take care.

I am glad that he liked what you made. I make many meals that my husband likes and one of his favorite is meat loaf. Tomorrow night I am making ham roast from the pig that we had butchered earlier this year. It was one that his cousin raised, not one we raised.

I was happy that my husband likes the taste of different beef meals, too. He would like the meat loaf. He would also like the ham. I can't eat that because it will make me feel like I'm dying of thirst, but I like most non-salty meats. Thanks for dropping by and take care.
