Some of you may remember that two years ago either a drunk or kids playing mailbox bingo took our mailbox out. This past year, the snow plow hit it.
I told my husband to call the town (town plow hit it, we're on a town road). He didn't think they would do anything. I knew a friend in another town that they replaced his mailbox. So he called someone who works for the town and they told him to call the town garage. The town garage brought us a temporary mailbox. This was fine with us since our old one was sheered off at the base. It could still work, it just couldn't stand up and during winter and spring, couldn't put a new cement base down. So they brought us a mailbox with a cut down 2 x4 post and a wheelhub base that works well in snow and tips over great for the snow plow.
All summer, we've been meaning to put our mailbox back up. With my being ill and my husband going back to work, it didn't happen. So My hubbie paid one of my brothers to put it back up. Yesterday he put it up with a new 2 x 4 and a cement base. Today I called to tell them they could have it back, they came and got their mailbox after I called. Less than 20 mins. Our town is very response to our needs. Both times they arrived quickly to help us out. We don't pay very much in taxes, but they're still very good to us.
So have you needed anything from the place where you live? Have they been timely and helpful?

Very happy to hear that your town is so cooperative this way. I live in a city and our mailboxes are not really exposed to anyone bumping them. Here it is like pulling teeth to even get anyone to listen to complaints. I wish to live in a small town some day as well as most people really do help one another out.
Here in the city most fend for themselves and or are too busy to watch over some. My apartment needs a great deal of upgrades but for now it is what it is as our landlord will not make repairs. We are hanging on for as long as we can as my boyfriend does own a home in Arkansas for which someday we will relocate there.

We vote for the people who run the town so they want to be re-elected. They know we either praise or complain about them. So once people get in, they want to stay in and work very hard. So the person who runs the town garage is voted in. I think I will vote for the incombant as long as we get service like this.
Yes, most cities have better places to put mailboxes.
Sorry to hear your landlord is unresponsive to your needs. I hope you can go and will be happy in Arkansas.

Good for you! I live in a rural area, and the plows took out my mailbox 4 times last winter. And I had just been bragging about how that was the longest time I haven't had to have the mailbox replaced. You're lucky they would do that, and even give you a temp box. They wouldn't do that here, so we are replacing it ourselves (if it'd ever quit raining!!) We live at a county line, and there is a road across from the house that is a township road. We have 3 different plow systems turn around there: State, Township, and County. After the 4th time, I asked them if I could have permission to move the mailbox down to the far side of our driveway, that way backing up plows don't have to worry about it anymore. So that's what we're doing. That's a good idea about the wheel-hub base, will have to look in the barn and see if there's one there I can use. I'm also putting up one of those plywood snow shields that are so popular on our road, so that the snow being thrown by the plows can't hit the mailbox and hit the plywood instead.
We had to call the State garage this spring about our 200 yr old maple that's real close to the road. A huge branch was hanging after a storm and I was worried it'd come down. I called the state patrol: somebody from the road dept. will check it. They never did. The next storm that huge limb just missed falling on a car and crushing it. The road was closed for days because it was so big, and the State Police were very upset that the State Rd dept didn't check it in a timely manner as someone could have gotten killed. After that, they sent 3 giant cranes to take down that huge tree...but it took them 2 months to even do that. Every time it stormed I prayed nobody would get hurt! So, no, I'm thinking this area does not respond in a helpful or timely manner lol.Glad you're getting your new mailbox up! Hope you're having a nice day!

I called the Electric Company about a branch that was going to snap their lines. Their reply, "We don't do anything until the tree breaks it." Well the line was going to our house, so we called and had to pay $200 for a tree person who was certified to work around powerlines to take it out. That was a couple of years ago. Getting someone to do something about a tree is a challenge.
