One of the deciding factor in India's 5-0 drubbing of the English team was fielding. With youngsters like Raina, Kohli and Jadeja throwing themselves all around the park, the fielding seems to have moved to another level altogether. I think the square is now completely secure with these fielders. What is your view on India's fielding standards currently? Cheers! Ram

Our Indian team fielding is good. that is why we have been able to win all the five one dayers. great. we should continue to maintain this standard in the future games also.

The England team was sloppy and over confident and they did not give their best in the ODI series. The Indian fielding was outstanding. A great effort was made by MS Dhoni and they won the ODI series 5-0.

Actually that was the most surprising thing. The Indian fielding outplayed the English fielding by a huge margin. I think the difference was close to around 20 odd runs. Cheers! Ram

Yes, the young turks have really lightened up the field. I think that adds a lot of pressure during the powerplays. And thus also helps the bowlers. Cheers! Ram

Traditionally fielding has never been considered as the requisite skill to excel in cricket. Good batting or bowling skills earned a player a place in the team. The lack of fielding skills never prevented the player from being selected in the team. There were some exceptions though, some of the names coming to the mind immediately are Solkar, Abid Ali, Venkat Raghavan, Navab of Pataudi, Azharudhin etc.. The advent of shorter versions of the game like O.D.I.s and T20s highlighted the importance of fielding. The selectors started considering fielding skills as prime criteria for the selection in the team. This brought in new crop of good fielders like Raina, Kohli, Jadeja. and many more. This has improved fielding standards in Indian cricket tremendously competing with the best in the field. The result is as you say, we have started winning the matches by out competing the opposition in fielding skills.

I think there are two major factors for this. One is the advent of the limited overs game as you have pointed out correctly. The other is the general ground conditions in India improving at the Ranji levels meaning that more and more youngsters are willing to throw themselves on the field. Cheers! Ram
