How many of you have to hide body art ie tattoos or piercings - for work or school? Do you agree with this policy? I'm not asking whether you comply with it, just if you agree with it.
With the large percentage of people who actually HAVE tattoos and piercings, I have to wonder who is being catered to when businesses and employers and teachers use the excuse of 'wanting to cater to the public'. We are the public and don't we count? LOL!

I guess that it would probably depend upon what the tattoo was and where it was located. I have seen guys with nekkid females tattooed on their bodies, and I really do not think that is appropriate, especially in a job where there will be children present, such as at a restaurant or grocery store. In that instance, I think that I would agree with the policy to have it covered. On the other hand, I do not think it is fair to say that this person can show his or her tattoos while that person has to have his or her tattoos covered. If the tattoo will be covered, then it does not matter what the does or does not have, so I guess it makes it "equal" and less judgmental.

I'd likely not do business with someone with tattoos and absolutely not with piercings.
So given that I'm a customer, if a business wants my dollars, they'd better hire people without them, or without them showing.
But that's just me. I don't know what the majority is, and... I don't care really. But whatever works for them.

I just read an article where employers are putting dress codes that all tattoos have to be covered or you won't be hired. I'm sorry, but I think tattoos are gross. I mean, it just looks disgusting to see your food prepared by arms of all colors and distortion. It is a little like smoking....if you want to smoke and kill yourself, fine, that's our decision, howver, I don't want to breath your smoke and kill my self. Same here...you want to ink yourself up, fine, but don't expect everyone to like it or accept you because of it. I went to Target to return something and was so shocked by what I saw...I almost turned and left as it was so gross, I just didn't want to look at it...a guy, young, early 20's and he had this horseshoe shaped hook in his nose, and those big ball things inside his ears (not earrings, but a huge hole in the lobe with a round ball kind of thing in it, and they were hanging down and he had tattoos on his forearms. He just looked scarry and I almost turned to leave, but I had come so far and didn't want to have to waste gas and time to come back, so I just didn't look at him and did the return. I think employers should have a dress code... and covering tats should not be allowed...same as wearing flipflops and sandles to work!

I don't think that somebody with a nose piercing should be greeting people who want to sit down to a nice meal. There are standards that the public has and those people for whatever reason want to express themselves with body art or body jewelry should not be on display. I think that when you are at work you should uphold to the employers rules, after work, you can do what you want.

I have two tattoos on the opposite sides of my ankles...Like on the inside of my legs near my feet. I also have one on my thigh. They always get hidden by my pants. One time I accidentally wore capri pants to an interview and it was exposed. I have stars going up my arm, but most job sites don't have any issues with it. It's well done and doesn't look trashy or anything.
