Costliest is the cheapest

I have two cordless phones. Panasonic battery was required to be changed. In one shop its cost is Rs. 750 ($15). In another shop it is Rs.450 ($9). We go out of station for a few months in a year and when it is left unused such batteries become bad and do not get charged properly after the lapse of time. So I thought it is better to go in for cheaper one. I bought it 20 days back and the performance of the same is totally low. It loses all the power over night when it is left uncharged. Whereas I had bought another battery for Rs. 750 and it works well. It doesn't lost charge when it is left uncharged over night. Lesson learnt - costliest is the cheapest. What is your experience in such matters? Do you agree costliest is the cheapest? Please tell your views.

That is kind of like "you get what you pay for"... sometimes I think the quality of some things are less of the cheaper items. Not always.. but sometimes.

Exactly. We get what we pay for. If we pay good amount we get good service. This applies to hotels and restaurants also. You are cautious in adding "not always, but sometimes.". How is your grand daughter-in-law?

Getting a job is also not an easy one. Let her try. Since you cannot afford to give now relax. Let her manage her affairs of her own. thanks for replying.

She is okay.. always complaining about money... yet not ever getting up and getting a job. She has been out of school for over a month.. after quitting.. but has not gotten a job. Yet she thinks people should give them a handout. Not me anymore. I've learned that I'm only being taken advantage of.

yes when we opt for a costly thing then that give twice return when we go for a cheper one.Its better take a branded or good one which can give lifetime good use.Better not to go withthe cheap ones as they worn out early and it becomes a twice loss when we buy another one.

Yes. This battery did not last even a month. I am terribly worried. I want to find out whether the seller is willing to exchange it. It is better to go for branded items.

I honestly don't think that this is a generalization that you can make with everything because there are a lot of things that you can buy where it is cheaper to buy the off brands and they perform just as well as the name brand or more expensive products. With that said, it has been my experience that the only way to know which is going to work the best for you is with a process of trial and error.

Nice. You are very clear in your ideas. You recommend or suggest trial and error as one option to decide about this. superb. good day.

You know that is really something that is very true. Cost is rarely if ever an indicator of actual quality. There are a lot of companies who after a while because of the reputation they have decide to put a substandard product out there, at a bit higher price. Naturally a lot of people swallow the bait. Then there are just going to be many people who are going to more than disappointed with the actual quality of the products. So yeah, something about the cost is really frustrating to say the least. I think that a middling price is likely something where you're going to get the best indicator of quality. Cheap can equal cheap as well. Interestingly enough, the older technology tends to work a lot better than the newer more costly stuff. We tend to get distracted by all of the bells and whistles and forget the actual quality of the situation.

Yes. I also use to think like this. Instead of buying costly one or cheapest one why not I buy middle order one so that gain or loss may be comparatively less. But to judge that is a problem. Finally I am of the view we should buy reputed goods from reputed shops paying correct price. have a good day.

It is difficult to generalize, because you can have good surprises with cheap products. I bought a pack of 4 AA batteries for my camera with no brand -- more exactly a completely unknown brand -- in a discount shop, and I noticed they were very good. There was a factory reference on the pack, I looked online, and saw that it was a factory producing Duracell batteries. These ones, sold with no brand, were 3 times cheaper, and equals in quality.

topffer: Yes sir. Duracell batteries last longer. You were lucky to get good ones. Probably the discount shop was a genuine one and you got genuine product.have a good day.

I would more bet on hazard and luck : I came there when they had a good stock, but I never find exactly the same batteries in this shop, and all are not good.

In some cases, yes, in some cases, no you can get some good quality at a fraction of branded one's cost. Though in my experience, most of the time, you do get what you pay for. I bought a bicycle for my daughter for her 3rd birthday from Disney brand. It was costing more than 3000 INR. Before she could actually learn riding, our house guest broke it completely. So I bought her another one for her fourth birthday. I got it from Vishal at 1400 INR and boy, it is very bad. It didn't work from the beginning, I had to repair it every other week or so. I just wanted to buy the cheapest one thinking she is going to outgrow it very soon and I will have to buy her a more suited one in a year or two anyway. I regret that decision as the trouble the cheaper one caused is too much. The one I bought previously would still have been good had it not been carelessly dropped, hit and well majorly abused by our young house guest.

You are also subscribing to my idea--that cheapest should not be bought. However in this case the shopkeeper exchanged and gave a new battery. This one is working well. Luck favoured me to get it from this shopkeeper whereas another shopkeeper might have negatived my request.

I believe that there is an optimum price for every product or service for a minimum guaranteed performance. Hard bargains and aggressively priced items may be useful only over a limited period of time. The choice of course is always complex. There are a number of factors influencing the buying, affordability for a cross section of people being the most important one. As for myself, as long as I can afford, I would like to go with reputed brands with track record of the manufacturer. Because that's the only assurance about cost vs quality balance. It is impossible for any one to gauge the real price of each & every product and hence reliance on manufacturer's backing is some comfort.

branded ones are sold with brand name but not originals. that is why they are sold cheaper and are not effective. good day.
