Teacher harassed

I was snooping thru some of the notifications that come thru my inbox and one had this article on it. http://newmediajournal.us/indx.php/item/3853 The union leaders of any union that is affiliated with any public employee seem to have a beef. In my state they limited and in some cases denied collective bargaining rights of said public employees in an effort to negotiate pay, pension, compensation based on performance not tenure, and health care contributions ect in order to keep our state from shutting down. People stormed the capitol this spring, not showing up to their jobs, getting fake "sick notes", damaging property voicing their dislike for Mr. Walker whom they just voted in office who despite what the protesters feel has done what he promised a balanced state budget w/o raising taxes!!!
Well the teacher in the article decides to appear in a commercial on behalf of the Govenor and the changes he's implimented... now people think they have the right to harass her out of her job!!! I'm sorry but it's her right to speak her opinion and should not be harassed or bullied because her view differs from that of the biggest union in the state!!! Shame on them!!!! And wanting her to loose her job? How has her opinion impaired her teaching ability? Who do they think they are?

Exactly, it is her right to speak her opinion. The problem is when she is speaking out against the union or if she is saying something that the union doesn't agree with, then the union will not like her, and they will try to get rid of her by any means necessary.
Do I think that what those people are doing is wrong? Yes, they do not have the right to harass and threaten her out of her job, and the people who are doing that should be arrested for harassment and threatening a person's life. They may not agree with her, but she is entitled to her opinion.

Indeed. If you go against the unions opinion on things and you work in a union shop you are doomed for disaster. Sadly it shouldn't be that way, her opinion, her right to speak it. The unions are too busy telling all these people what to think, instead of realizing they'd probably be better off w/o the union. Afterall unions were started to improve working conditions and impliment a 8hr work day, all that is done.... why do they still exist? Oh wait they negotiate higher wages and benifits, so they can collect more dues.

Actually, you have named some of the reasons why they still exist. My mother is part of a union, and she likes it because they negotiate higher wages for the workers and you can get health care benefits and dental through the unions. Many people feel that unions are beneficial, but they aren't beneficial when they are threatening someone's rights.

I know very few people who work in a union shop and they all get insurance some how. And they are being quite disrepectful of her right to her opinion, her freedom of speech.

I don't think that is right at all....unfortunately things are touchy in some areas. My daughter is a teacher and she said that they can be fired by things they post on facebook. Now I think they should have the right to voice their opinions...without being harrassed or threatened!

Oh I don't doubt that! I worry a bit about that with my co-workers venting too much on FB and that a member of managment is online and a friend with a few co-workers I think twice about what I post on those pages

Very true. Our Govenor has made it a Christmas tree again not a holiday tree as well.

There is another myLotter in your state that has provided a lot of statistics showing how your governor's policies have benefited the state and made it more financially stable but the unions pay no attention to that.
I guess freedom of speech is fine as long as you don't go against the unions. They have become a political power way beyond what they should be and the current prez is enabling them further. I shudder to think what it will be like if he is re-elected. This teacher won't be the only one booted out of her job if that happens and we'll all be under the thumb of tyrants ruling under the guise of benevolence.

I think that if I were in that state, I would pull my kids (if I had any) out of the public school system and take the good teachers who are being threatened for supporting what they believe to be right and pay them to educate those who want to learn. I think that is one reason I don't like unions. Sure it might be harder to fire someone who is a member of a union (as long as they do what the union wants them to), but they are just power hungry mobsters who don't care about people. I think I would work for a private school before I'd work for a public school any day of the week if they are all like that! Thanks for sharing this!

Maybe we'll think the same thing, we will decide to end our careers and looking for another job that can take us better than we are not appreciated at all. It is a matter of choice, everyone has the right to choose what she wants. Of course, you also do not want to end up in a single place, but you want to go somewhere else.
The best way was not to have a problem, but I think it is quite impossible for us speak out of problem. That's it.
