Receiving the news channel CNN-IBN Indian of the Year - Sports award for 2011, MS Dhoni the captain INDIA who led INDIA to a dream world cup victory said that he may not be there to captain INDIA in worldcup 2015.
"If you see 2015, three and a half years to go, I don't really know where I will stand. Everything needs to go off well and then close to 2013, I will have to take a call whether I can be 100% available for the 2015 World Cup," Dhoni said.
It was very hard decision for him didn't it. He asid that he is a wicket keeper and might not be fit till the worldcup date. He told that his final decision will be made 2013 end where he will analyse his fitness and then took the decision.
What you myllotter think about this is this needed?
Why he told like this even not a year pass the greatest victory of INDIA in worldcup. WHy he is not keen to the performance and want to reagin the worldcup under his captaincy.
Anyway congrats to dhoni for Indian of the Year - Sports award for 2011.

I think he is right as well. I think 3 and half years is a long time in sports and you need to take it one year at a time. Of course, if Team India performs and he remains fit, then he will still be on the hot seat. If not, somebody else would be there.
Cheers!

If he decides to play purely as a batsman he can decide to give up keeping. Sachin and Dravid have given up captaincy to prolong their careers and so has Ponting. In fact Sachin hardly bowls these days. Surprisingly there are hardly any all rounders in the game today.I think it is a dying breed. Angelo Mathews is an example and he will bow out if he decides to continue as an all rounder.
Or Dhoni can decide to give up captaincy and continue as a player who can bat and keep wickets. He must been very fit to have lasted so far.But the body needs rest and injuries need rest and time to heal.

It is INDIA where you played 1 match like hero you will be froced to play for 10-12 match free even if you perform worst. And Dhoni is super hero nobody can stop him playing. I don't mean he will play bad. Fitness is key issues but it is possible to go with it. Current example is sangakara who had playing before dhoni and is looking good. I don't think BCCI will remove Dhoni unless he himself wwant skip out. I don't want dhoni to sit and see but to play and hope he will do like that only.
fannekhan, you had wrote a good description but i am hopeful that dhoni will not sjip down as captain. IF he will skip he will not play also.If he had to skip he must from the worst England tour. Sachin and Dravid captaincy had other matter, which force them to leave it. Dhoni will play and i am and his more of an will like to see him more on pitch htting sixes.

Will Cricket survive till 2015? There is some doubt whether tests and odi cricket will survive till 2015. Dravid's speech in UK has highlighted the perils facing the longer version of the game and without test cricket cricket may simply fold up and die and now that Asia is dominating cricket England, Australia,Newzealand will start losing interest in the game, one can already sense it going by the resentment Indian cricket board BCCI is facing , particularly from Australian cricket. They are making an issue of India's reluctance to adopt UDRS and do not like to face the fact that India is refusing to be pushed like it so obligingly used to in the past.
The twenty-20 monster cannot survive on its own and will fade away quickly.

I am really surprised to know what this statement is and what it means and what timing has MSD thought of when giving this statement. He has at least ten years of cricket left in him. Instead of talking about the Aussies, the much anticipetet ton of the Little Master and having the mindgames going. Though he is now a senior member of the team, he is not that old to talk about things like his ODI future and playing in the 2015 World Cup. There are still four years to go before the current champions defend their title.
I agree with Kul who answered the first response of the discussion. He is likely or can change his mind later too. There is still a lot of time go before the 2015 World Cup arrives.

I too got shcoked of hearing this. Is this the same man who won the many touranament for INDIA ? I am asking my self.
Why he talk like looser? it offcourse the losser's sign who want to get away from the game.
You are right there is more than 10 years of cricket left in him and he will more probably will play atleast two more worldcups. Yes he must now concertate on the current tour and left the future things to future itself. Time may cahnges and nobody knows what future will be show why to think of it. Palnning is good but worry about these nonsense.
Yes i too agress with kul and too think that this just a mere talk and dhoni will chnge his mind sooner and will play. I hope he would talk in postive sense and not like this. There are still much more to show and he had to do much more to benifit INDIA's cricket.

well i have to say he has indeed matured, atleast while giving statements and what he has said is completely true.
lets be honest.other than Sachin,no other player's position is safe,including Dhoni's.
now Dhoni has been captain for 4 years i believe and during that time he saw many things.
he saw people like yuvraj who almost competed against him for captaincy and believed to be unmovable ,lose his place in the test squad.
after kumble, the only main stay spinner was bhajji.you thought he cannot be axed but he has.
even when Dravid's form dipped for a couple of months, people started pondering about his retirement before he smashed them all in their faces and kept scoring centuries.
so you get my point.you can be the world cup winner but all you need is very bad form and some proper replacement material doing too well in domestic arena to make one's position shaky.
but if Dhoni even wanted to last till then,he should manage his schedule better.
wicket-keeping ( worst position.you cant take break and afford to relax even for one ball ),captaincy and batsman.
combine this 3 with non stop ODI,T20 and test cricket, you can expect your body to give up a couple of years earlier.
just add IPL and champions league, you might as well get an early retirement.

There are many wicketkeeper batsman who played for longer time and see sanga he is there, though he mignt not a captain but ne wzs captaining Team for long time before tne worldcup loss.
Dhoni is just telling awful things, or just misleading or you have read something wrong sense. I bet he will be there and will play more than one worldcups in future.

You are Right kundan and i also had suggested the same Sangakara as example to Dhoni's desicion. Well why Dhoni said i don't know but might he feeling some presure due to huge no of matches, Either must play few matches or keep in a standar way to hold the shedules to macth his fitness with resting.
