Don't jog: Brisk walking is better

Hi Everyone, Many doctors and physiotherapists have expounded their views that it doesn't matter whether one jogs or walks for exercise. The important thing is the need to maintain one's regular regime i.e. the frequency, intensity and duration of the exercise. To achieve greater health benefits one has only to increase the frequency, intensity and duration. Brisk walking at low to moderate intensity for about 30 minutes 3 to 5 times a week is sufficient. Personally I think it's better to brisk walk as there are risks to injuries from jogging such as knee cap injury, inflammation of the foot and torn or sprained thigh tendon and so on. Do you agree with my view? Or are you a hard core jogger?

Hello succeednow. I usually jog on our school track field, but some of our colleagues have brisk walking. They can take the brisk walking for two hours or more after dinner every single day unless it rains. When I join them, my jogging becomes brisk walking as well. I like to have fun with them in chatting while walking on the track field. Take care.

Hi wliiamjisir, As I've mentioned previously it's much better to brisk walk instead of jogging especially when one gets older. That's a great idea - to have a chat while brisk walking - you won't be able to do that while jogging! Thanks for responding. Have a nice day.

When I was younger I used to jog every morning, but my legs started hurting and then I'd have to take a morning off. Jogging is addictive and I would really miss it when I couldn't do it. At my age now I feel good to just walk for 30 minutes without taking a break.

Hi peavey, When a person gets older the joints are not as flexible and strong as before. Hence the need for low impact exercise to reduce or eliminate the risks to injury caused by high impact exercise. Brisk walking would do the trick. Incidentally do you know what's the speed of your 30-minutes walk?

Hi there succeednow! I totally agree with you! Most of the time when I go to college, I always walk fast. Whenever I walk slow, I feel tiredness come to me so it's better to walk briskly. And not only that, by walking briskly, we also exercise our heart to pump for blood into our circulatory system. And at the same time, it's also good for our lungs too, especially to me, I am an asthmatic person and whenever I exercised, I feel like I reduced the chances of me having an asthma attack. All in all, Brisk walking is a great and simple way to exercise! Have a nice day!

Firstly I have to apologize for the mistake in the title. It should have read "Don't Jog: Brisk walking is better" instead of "Don't walk: Brisk walking is better". I wonder if many people notice that mistake. I don't know how that word crept in or should I say walked in. Anyway thanks for your comments.
