I have two ereaders, a Nook and a new Kindle Fire. My nook doesn't have a back light but the Fire does. On both devices I can adjust the type size where even with less than perfect vision I can read both of them easily. There are other options that make them desirable for people like me, and I'm sure there are many people whose vision is less than perfect that buying a book can be a challenge when the book only comes in one font size, small. I have owned the Nook for over a year and the Kindle Fire only recently. But I love to read, and this is my solution to diminishing eyesight and no room to store additional books in my home. If you have eyesight issues, I recommend you try and ereader. Have you found them good for your eyesight?

They make eyesight worse not better. They are much like a computer screen and that can make eyesight worse. It's not the same as a good book holding it. Yeah it takes away keeping them in your home but there a thing called a libary were you can get books for free and rent them over and reread them as many times as you want. That is why getting eye exams are important. I don't have perfect eyesight with out my glass or contacts but with them I see everything I need to it takes ready a breeze when I do read.

There is no research that validates your comment about it worsening vision in an older person. Anything, including books, can weaken your eyesight when you do it too long including reading books. I know because my eye doctors have told me. For an older person, like me, lighting is an issue even with books. I appreciate your comment, but it just isn't true in my opinion under all circumstances. Thanks for your response. My nook is just like reading a book with no back light and I know if I read too long, it bothers my eyes the same way any paper book does. Eyestrain comes from many things not just computer screens and their is no eye strain from a computer screen unless you look at it too long.

I really enjoyed my ereader last night when the hubby was sleeping. The Kindle Fire has a lighted screen much like a computer and you can adjust it so it isn't real bright. I can read at night, watch movies online with it, or communicate on social networks with it, in the dark. I love it! The Nook doesn't have back lighting but I did get it earlier and have still books to read on it. Thanks for the response sister.
