how long to they jump?

My hubby bought the kids Mexican Jumping beans for the kids a while back. They aren't moving anymore so I'm guessing the worm inside is dead? How long are they supposed to last anyways? Can you do anything with the bean like plant it? or is it just 100% novelty and useless beyond watching them jump?

Not American but Mexican. More of a novelty of nature you could say... the bean/seed jumps around because there's a larva of some sort inside it making it move.

This certainly does bring back some memories because when I was a child this was something that my father brought home for us after one of his trips for work in Texas. I remember that they seemed to jump around for a while, but then they did stop jumping. At that point, we just threw them away. I don't think that they would really grow into anything because of the worms that do live inside the beans wouldn't allow for a full growth system in there.

Lol I remember my mom bought me some one time. I had no idea there were actual worms inside! Mine jumped for a long time...at least a year I think. I'm not sure if there are other uses for them, I just remember you couldn't open the little container they came in. I guess they would stop jumping if it was opened.
