Do we have to say the opposite?

Have you ever asked a child something but he/she won't do it but do the exact opposite? For example, you ask him to go wash his hands but he won't do it, but if you ask him not to wash his hands then he would go wash his hands.
My niece dropped her food on a dirty floor and she was about to pick it up again so she could eat it so I said "C'mon, pick it up and eat it" and she didn't pick it up. When we tell her not to pick it up and eat it because it's already dirty, then she would quickly pick it and pop it into her mouth.
I just wonder why some children need to be told the reverse or the opposite before obeying. What do you think?

That is so funny but true. Sometimes there is a real reason why a child should do something like brush their teeth before bed. Do not brush your teeth and do they do so. If you say climb over that wall they will stay safe. It would of course be very dangerous to go over the wall and end up in the sea. Yes, many children do what they are told not to do.

Yeah, it's kinda funny :) But I'm ever curious when they haven't been taught that way but still they seem to mock you by doing the opposite.
Kids really are kids
