Do People Here Know Your Real Name?

or are you just a user name to them? Maybe you do not feel right sharing your real first name here, or only share it with people you have gotten to know? I am sure there are many people here who may have been on my friends list for yrs. now that I feel I know them quite well in here, but am not really sure of their first name, and where they live etc. like I might know if I am friends of theirs on Facebook.
But personally I guess it all comes down to the Trust issue, and whether you feel comfortable sharing a lot of this information with others. I know some people here have used their first name in their user name, and that is OK, and some like me that use their last name. So if you are not wanting to share your real name, that is really your choice, but just wondering if you do, or do not, and reasons you select for both.

Well, there are a lot of things I know I have personally shared with people who are members here, and also via Facebook that I don't always share with everyone, but I feel it is no big deal to let everyone know my first name here. I feel privacy regarding names, once you have been a member here for a while need not be an issue anymore.

That is where we differ I was raised around computers all my life the littlest info can lead to someone getting your I'd, credit card numbers, where you live and stuff. Me I don't give out info to people I so t know about my name my kids name where ivlive my birthday who my parents are my phone number. Anyone with extreme computer skills can get any password of yours know eberyhig about. Stuff online isn't that private for god sake the government know every move you make on the computer down to the key stroke you make. Sure a site might look safe but to every site there is a crazy person or two that are looking for not so smart people to pray on. This is the reason to why babies social security numbers are jacked.

Well that is why it is important to not disclose everything about yourself. There are people that know my first name maybe, or my last name, but do not know much else about me unless they are a close friend. Most of the time I choose what I want to share even here, but not afraid to share my first name as that is who I really am.

Hi Tina. I do let some folks know who I am. I have mentioned my name in a few discussions. Everyone who is close to me knows my name and probably know my last name too.

Yes I know the names at least first of both of you as you have been Friends of mine here on myLot for a long time. Being able to someday meet either of you would be awesome for sure. Maybe in time.

None of my internet friends knows my real name or many personal details. It's just safer that way. If I was going to meet an internet friend in person I would divulge my name but not in a public way. I don't hide who I really am on the internet, just my name.

See that is where you and a lot of other people differ here. Just because someone knows my first name does not mean I have to worry about them here. Even on Facebook it does not bother me to have a lot of friends. I guess for me since I have my online/offline Business it is no problem with me letting people know some of my information. And since I have been online now for many yrs. and never had any issues, I feel it is no problem letting people know my name.

Well, it is true that there are some here who I doubt I will ever meet in real life, but then there are others here who I feel I already know a lot about. Personally I think it is always a matter of choice.

I use the shorten form of my name (Dar) and Randy is my husband. many times people will send me a message saying hi Randy. I love my husband which is why I use his name and my name as my screen name. Also, my mother told me the other day that once a couple is married a long time after a while you start sounding alike and looking like each other and in most cases can read each others mind (which is scary)

I knew from other posts and discussions that Randy was your husband, but what a wonderful way to include him into each conversation here. I do agree the longer a couple is married that they can read each others minds and become one of the Best help mates. As to looking like each other, is that why sometimes people think my husband and I are brother and sister or something?

Hi, Krause, my real name is Fanny Aronova. My best friend in high school used to call me Fannitia and I choose this for my nickname here. I write my real name for the first time but it just happens like this, it's not because I wanted to hide it.

Nice to meet you officially Fanny. I think Fannitia is a pretty name, and actually thought this might be your real name. But choosing Nicknames you have had for quite a while is always good.

hi Krause hatley is mylast name and I think a number of my mylot friends know myfirst name is Patsie. As I have worked on line on
my family tree my whole name is flashing around on the net so I
might as well be open about it. I am too old to have anything ot
hide anyway. lol. I am on facebook also Tina, I find it hard to]
know who is who when people want to be my friend if they do not
clue me in to their mylot user name as I do not know all the real'names of people here. If they say I am so and so then of
]course I will add them as a friend. lol.

Well, I feel it is worth letting people know your real name on here as well, because overall I have got nothing to hide either. I have even shared many times where I am from as in WA state, so I guess it is always just a matter of the person and what they want others to know?

So there is no one here who knows your real name? Is it because you are wanting it kept that way, or never share this site, etc. with your close friends and acquaintances as well? Here unless you tell someone your full name, address, etc. everything is pretty private for sure.

Hello Tina, nice to meet you. I think that people is not too anxious to give his/her name, or personal data on internet this days, when there are so many people with wrong intentions, not only in this place, but, in any social net. As for me, I have no problem in giving my real name to people, yet, I prefer to have some personal comunication first. I think that this is in the mind of most people in the web this days.

Yes, I am sure you are right there, and there are a lot of people out there with wrong intentions everywhere you turn. Especially if you are a member of Facebook. I guess the reason I am not afraid to share my name here is I have been a member here now for almost 6 yrs. and the regulars know me. So it is no real deal in here.

I personally share my real name if the person I meet online is actually my good friend which reliably kept anything about me. I don't share my real name in particular because as we all know internet is also a resident of some bad people who use ours to their advantage or to make evils to other...

Yes, it is true that there can be times where your name or account, etc. might be jeapordised if you share too much information with them, but then it is up to you to be cautious as well. I feel here though unless you go giving out your Email address to someone you are safe letting people know your real name, and a little more about you and your life.

Well, we let people know our real name on sites like Facebook so for me this place is a lot safer than there so sharing my first name here has never really been a thing of concern.

NOBODY knows my real name - hee hee. I like staying anonymous - not that I have anything to hide. For me it's always been a safety issue - and I stay anonymous when I come to sites like this - not that I think any particular person will stalk me or my family - but you just never know. My name is not common, so it's possible a person could find me if I give away just the right information - so I just don't. I feel bad that some people have requested to be friends on Facebook and ask for my real name, but I can't - just can't get myself to do it - yet.

Well, I have had my picture on here since the very beginning. It is no Big deal for me, as on real Social Networking sites they insist on a real picture, besides sites like Facebook that is. So for me well, people might know what I look like, my first name, etc. but unless they are a close personal friend usually this will be as far as I get.

There are a lot of things I have done online that I have been Anonymous with and have not shared a lot of details with, but some things I feel it is no Big deal. Since I have to share my online Business ideas with everyone and they have to know my real name, etc. for that, I guess for most things it is no big deal.

Whether it's my being naive or maybe i easily trust people, I always give my real name. My user name is also my real name. And some friends here who have communicated with me and get in touch with me until now knows my name as well.
You are right though that some just don't give them out for security reasons. It's a matter of trust.

Well, there are many names I have used over the yrs. online. My first nick and Email was Sleepless97, which I felt fit especially since at the time I was single and from the Seattle area. Only a few select people have ever known my real name, as that is the name I used in Talk City when it was big.

I don't share my name here. People I have known for awhile and have on my Facebook freinds list know my real name. I have used another name for years online and I don't let very many people know my real name. This is due to alot of problems I had while on AOL.

Yes, there have been many problems over the yrs with some of the FREE Email sites, and back in the day with AOL and dial up. I had issues many times with MSN as well as AOL. As for my first name, many here know it, and that is OK. Just a lot of the other stuff I keep personal.

Some people do. I have a user name because it says more about me and what I stand for than my real name does. I want everyone to know I love animals, especially cats. But like I said, some know my real name. Some people even know were I live and could find me very easily. I don't see why anyone would target me for bad stuff, so I don't care. On some sites I use a fake last name. It gives me a bit of privacy.

Yes, when I first joined this site over 6 yrs ago, I just wanted a creative name. Then I started using my first name here and have even got people here who I have become good friends with talked on the phone with, etc. And since I also a,m sometimes sharing a lot of my life, find it no big deal if I share my name here.
But with people like you, we know you by your nick here, and that is also a plus.

If you want to build "internet reputation", you may want to use only one "name" on the net. On the best fortune, you may be the next internet superstar.
I thought Justin Bieber was gaining his first popularity from Youtube?
Or who knows that you might be the reputable internet marketer..
But, well, just similar with you, I prefer to not only use one "name" over the internet. :)
