I don't know why more and more establishments are no longer accepting debit card transactions if the purchase amount is less than 100 pesos. It used to be that it doesn't matter how much the amount of your purchase as long as you will pay for it. But now, big establishments (specifically SM department stores and supermakets) are no longer accepting purchases below 100 pesos. Good thing that some establishments (like Robinsons Supermarket) are still accepting it.
Do you think it is fair for these establishments to set a limit for debit carrd transactions? Isn't it discrimination? And no matter how much are you buying, you're still a customer right?

They are the one issuing the card so we don't have any choice. We accept their terms and conditions so we cannot argue with them. Actually, if we view it as cardholders right, the company should not set a minimum limit of our purchases. But I think card processing and endorsing to the bank is not simple as ABC so they want it to process worth on their effort. I am not pron to used my debit card only for big purchases. I always bring cash and I am running out, I visit immediately the nearest Machine. Nowadays, more than 5 machine available each department store so no problem at all. Swiping your debit card for only 50 pesos is annoying.

It is a free market. Any unfair practices by a commercial concern we all should take action - boycott it. Buy from those that treat us shoppers well. If those retail establishments think that they can afford to lose business from us, then we should make it happen. But if it is we that can not do without the retailer concerned, then it is a different ball game. We just have to follow what they want.

I'm not sure about debit cards, but I think there's some policy behind the use of it. Why not check with your bank and ask them why your debit card isn't honored if the purchase amount is below P100? Debit cards are still cash in a sense, and those establishments you've mentioned should not impose limitations to the use of it.

I don't think it's fair that they want us to buy for more than what we really intend to. I guess they have reasons for that but for us consumers, it would be bothersome to buy something we really didn't want in order to reach that 100 peso or more limit.
