Something bad just happen tonight when I'm working. As schedule, I am a designated first aider for this week.
Around 10pm like that, I've receive a news that a co-worker bitten by snake. It was a green pit viper. What worry me most is that this snakes is a poisonous snake and very deadly.
He was bitten at the thigh are, luckily as it does buy him a lot of time. Me and our company ambulance driver rush him to the nearby hospital. He will be closely monitored by the doctor for this 24 hours. I just hope he will recover well. All the best to him.

I hope your co-worker was saved! It is a terrible experience to be bitten by a deadly snake such as that. But good thing he was bitten in his thigh which is not very near this heart. Anyway if he was given the necessary first aid properly and was rushed to the hospital I have high hopes that he was able to survive. Am I right?

You are right. The only first aid he need is calm down. It is important that it take longer time for the venom to travel in the blood stream and that can only be done by calming down.
The phyton if at my area are considered a very tasty delicacy. I never ate snake but I know a lot of people like to eat them.

It's probably going to feel like the end of the world for me if I were to be bitten by a snake. I was bitten by a cockroach before and it left a big, red and very itchy inflammation at the back of my thigh and I thought it was going to be the end of me.
I hope your friend will survive through it. Does your hospital have the right antivenom for that type of snake? Is that snake common in your place?

He did survive. I didn't quite sure about anti-venom, whether it is given or not. But I just have some comment on the nurse. How come she told the guy to lie down after being bitten by snake. Luckily I was still there and told him not to follow the nurse instruction. When the doctor take over, he never instructed the guy to lie down and the guy only sit the whole time until he was considered okay by the doctor.
Is the snake common? This is the first time I've seen it live. I've seen it alot a TV though. My friends told it was common so I guess it is common to find that snake.
Haha... It was a nasty bite from the cockroach.

Actually in case of a snake bit, what we need to do first is to calm him down. The lower the heart beat, the more time it takes for the venom to travel. Never ever make the victim to lie down no matter what when the snake bite at the lower part of the body. Lying down will make the venom travel faster through the blood stream. Always make the bitten area lower that the heart.
Tying the the leg or whatsoever like we watch at tv wouldn't help much. So does sucking out the venom.

Hi marcmm,
I had seen lots of snakes with huge size in our farm but never seen green coloured snakes. Seems to be poisonous too.
Marcmm you had done a great job by taking him to hospital ASAP. Hope he will come back soon. Its hard time to be in such situation. Even a bravest man in the world would got frigten by snakes. There was saying in our area " By seeing a snake the whole army will get frighten"
My prayers and best wishes for your co-workers to get well soon. Then hats off to you for your good work.

He was discharge yesterday. He feel better but still some pain from the bite.
What make me upset was this. He was given a sick leave for one day by the doctor. But the area manager urged the guy to work. This poor guy have to work that night. After he was discharge at 7.30 pm he goes straight to work. There nothing he can do as he just a contract staff.

He was bitten at his thigh. He was doing his routine, arranging the wooden pallet. Don't how, the snake was trap between the pallet. I quess that made the snake feel threaten and once the guy get near the snake strike immediately.
I guess he was lucky bacause he wear the fire retardant which was quite thick and maybe just maybe the snake didn't injected its venom. He was fine now and resume work as usual.

I also didn't sure if this kind of snake does exist in United states. You can watch it on national geographic and discovery channel. It consider on of the top 10 most dangerous snake.
Work environment, it was rare indeed at that part of my work area. The snake was trap between two wooden pallet. While the guy arranging the pallet, maybe the snake feel threaten and struck the guy.

Hope your co-worker recovers from the snake bite. I almost experienced the same situation years ago. there was a time that when I entered the comfort room,a snake was coiled right in front of the door and was ready to bite me were it not for my instinct to cry out for help. Apparently, the snake came from the open pipes and it was my luck that some of the male workers were doing some job beside the room. They had a difficult time removing the snake but they had to do it before it bites anyone of the workers. Their next task was to cut down all the grass that has grown in the company grounds to prevent it from becoming a breeding ground for snakes. They also made the precautionary measure to seal all the open pipes to prevent a similar situation from occurring.

I also have experieced snake come into our house and we have to get rid of it.
my co-worker is okay now. He's been working as usual without trouble.
