Sprained (?) Toe Question

I know a toe isn't quite the same as an ankle, but I think I have sprained my toe and although it doesn't hurt now it still has a bruise under the nail. I did this slightly over a week ago. It hurt like nothing else, but am happy it doesn't hurt anymore. I taped it to my other toe and cushioned it abit, luckily I was still able to limp to the store to buy a pair of very nice, comfy booties to wear when I go out so that it feels OK and doesn't scrunch my toes up. I'm wondering though how long will it take for that bruise to go away? It's purple, and my little toe on the end.

If it is the nail that is bruised most likely your nail will get brittle and need to be cut. It depends on your diet and lifestyle as to how long that might take. Well I know that when I was walking in shoes that didn't quite fit me one day, and a six mile hike at that, when I got home I had a hurt big toe and it felt sprained or something. The nail eventually got brittle and I had to cut it. It did grow back, but I had a very poor diet then and so it took a few months.

My diet is pretty much healthy, I don't eat tons of sugar anymore. I just wonder if the bruise is a sign the nail will fall off eventually. Not sure what to think but will try to cover it up with some pretty nice polish or something in the meantime.
