Facebook - the online diary

I was contemplating on how technology has greatly evolved and revolutionized the way of living and was really amazed on the changes, both great and small, I have found. They aren't really great discoveries, just really surprising to me. It came to my attention how some great inventions of that time have become extinct and unused for many years now, how simple life was and now technology making it simpler have somehow made it more complex, and so many other things. Among these observations, I came to one, which really made me ponder for a while. Facebook, from the beginning until what it is now, and so I came to a short quote for it - "If there was ever a more detailed diary or written journal of some person's life, it is Facebook". This online social interactive site probably has somebody's, if not most active users', details of everything, from simple basic personal information to their day-to-day activities, and even their most personal thoughts on anything and everything. It has records of the weather of the day based on someone's emotional post or traffic of a specific area based on somebody's rant or even the specials of a favorite restaurant from somebody's invite or what to watch and so much more. Facebook probably is the future of written global and human history. If aliens in the future, if they do exist, were to study human history and all, all they need to do is download Facebook's database. I know I have so much more to write about this but I believe you already get what I mean, right? Do you have anything more to add to this?

I could definitely see how a face book database could be a tool in studying our history. I would hate for them to see how people react to each other on there sometimes though. I suppose there have been worse things they could dig up though.

Sounds like you're guilty of something on Facebook. Hehe! Well, I guess some people don't restrict themselves to any privacy of their own and would love to show things about themselves, express things out loud, or just expose things indiscreetly so perhaps one could really dig up some things interesting or worse if one wanted to.

Never mind Facebook. Since no one can stop A.C.T.A., we can say goodbye to Facebook. Anyways, in my opinion, Facebook, as well as 9gag, and many other Internet socializing environments are a big waste of time. Who has a great Internet social life has no real life.

Sometimes, that thought occurs to me. I appreciate your opinion.

wow! you have analyzed it correctly. If we are to really think about it, we can absolutely be stalked by someone over this site and we would not even notice that we are giving away information too easy to people we are not even close with! This really meant that we should always be careful, right? We should always be careful and think more than twice before updating those statuses!

If given enough information to the wrong type of person, any user can really be in great danger, so care and responsibility should really be in mind when posting statuses and information. Thank you for your input.

Yes, and it becomes alarming in some way because there are always those who take opportunities on things like these and use it to their advantage leading to crimes like identity theft, and many more. I do hope that Facebook users remain alert and responsible.

You definitely hit the notes there. It's true that Facebook and even Twitter seemed to be the online diary for almost everyone. In my case though, I don't share everything on Facebook. I don't use it to update my state of ind, my thoughts everyday, and so on. I try to avoid that because I find it hard to share personal things about myself on the internet where people who like and dislike me can read about. For me, it's also a form of online etiquette not to personalize Facebook too much. I must say, I am one of those few people who get a little bit annoyed by people who update their status every few seconds, who put all kinds of pictures even the unpleasant ones, who writes post on friends' walls when the topic is irrelevant to others and can actually be sent through messages and all those other unnecessary stuff. I hope you don't get me wrong. But, sometimes, when we share too much of ourselves especially on Facebook where everyone, even your not so close friends can read, makes you look like a person seeking for some attention. Anyway, Facebook has really evolved like you said. I used to only use it for games back then but now, I don't really get so involved with it anymore.

My friend has a term for that, when people just post personal photos or statements to get attention, he calls them attention w#0r3s. LOL! I guess sometimes, there is something inside one to just flaunt and brag. I don't normally do that on Facebook, but I am guilty of the crime, that was when my friend called me that term. Haha! Anyway, I understand your point, and like you, I really was not that active in it, but have found myself to frequent the page nowadays. I, too, used to hate people who just makes it a hobby to post everything just about anything about them, but I have learned to ignore them. I even have a separate account just for games. Thanks for the input!

Hi there choybel,, I think that times have really changed, people too, everything is almost high-tech now and that life is more fast paced and full of struggles not all is adept to this and yet they strive just to be in the loop, in my opinion Facebook is as you say it is , everything is put in there by everybody, things about there lives, personal and not so personal things about the times, seasons, the year, movies, politics you name it is on Facebook so i guess we should cherish this times since everything is so accessible we just need to be more responsible and conscientious on how we use our new technology.

Hi deodavid. I agree about being responsible and conscientious on how we handle all this technological advantage we enjoy now, especially regarding our personal matters, like information on Facebook. Thank you for your input on this.
