i watched the comedy videos about Surabaya..
it show one of the unique and traditional food of Surabaya, lontong balap
do you know Lontong Balap??
is anyone here from East Java and ever eat this food??
tell me about Lontong Balap...iam so curious about this food..

I often heard about this kind of food but I never tried it. Although I live in East Java but I never tried this food. But for me all kind of food made of 'lontong' are just similar both in seasonings and taste. yeah, of course there' s differences in topping or sauce but they're just the same in general. By the way, is it difficult to get 'lontong' in your place? if not, you may try this very simple recipe but the taste is heaven: take some garlic, chili and salt. grind well. add some water then stir well (this will become the chili sauce). next, take some 'lontong', fried tofu. chop in cubes. pour the chili sauce and add some soy sauce. sprinkle some fried onion and celery on it. it's very simple but the taste is amazing. it's one of my favorite food made of 'lontong'. happy trying..!

HISTORY OF LONTONG BALAP : It is that ever happened in the town of great war between the sark(suro) and crocodile(boyo). Food that have a component of rice cake(lontong), lento, fried tofu, et al made. than the food is sold by the barrel bore. Because of this barrel-shaped to accomodate a lot of material to efficiency of time. the barrel is very heavy. Thus the food vendor are carryieng a keg is a quick run to give the impression of race. Thus the people of java to name this food "Lontong Race"(lontong balap)-"balap" itself comes from java language. which mean is race. And that's where the history of this 'Lontong race'(lontong balap) altough name came from. Although now a lot of seller who use the Lontong balap cart. Lontong balap, a name still used for this food.

Never heard about it. And haven't ever found it in my home town.
Maybe if i'll find this food (in Surabaya, maybe), i'll give it a try.
Wonder what will it be different from other Lontong

Why when I read "lontong balap" I thought something different...
And do you know what am I thinking? Of course you don't...
Hmm... I thought the pocong race, and that's the only thing popped in my head... :))
A lot of pocong are in the middle of racing, and they jump as fast they can until the finish line... Huahaha...
But sorry I don't know anything about "Lontong Balap"... I only know about regular lontong... :D

Lontong balap as one of the member respond said that lontong balap actually is regular or usual lontong
the different maybe in several years or times ago, there are two seller compete for selling the lontong..and they compete get the bigger buyer..and they always race..and from that situation, there are becoming the famous idioms, Lontong Balap...
