"We are all in gutter, but some of us look to the stars. "Oscar Wilde.
Among see the naked, or that a glass full - even some drops, and only there - why choose? The empty, especially.
Between the clouds and waiting for the sun to beat down the sky to feel gloomy ... the latter is more convenient to me ...
I do not know if things are to choose, to learn, correct, or simply are part of us, what we are. I do not know if they characterize a label asking me pessimistic gloomy man.
I think, in fact, that every man there is a certain amount of optimism, the exact dose that what is strictly necessary to continue the journey of life ...
And then, could be regarded as pessimistic a man who, even in moments of despair, his mind working feverishly searching for a rope rescue? It says that you need so you can immerse high, because you did not like to feel as one unless you fell ...
So yes, I'm a pessimist who is stubborn enough to believe that no solution to anything ... even if my first reaction is a clear "end of world", even though at first I think sank all the ships and that anyone not happen that happening to me, the next moment, when, in my mind, its place lucidity, calm down and understand and see ... and looking ... automatically drop of optimism that I always carry through.
Eventually, each of us as we can be. Often strive to change, to be what others want to be, we modeled expectations, requirements. I think we only delude and deceive us. The essence is in us, there remains.
Optimistic people live longer? Well, it means that they suffer more! Every coin has two sides, clearly.
Are pessimistic and see everything in black, looking longer recognize colors at a time ...
Moderation, is the key word. Balance ... but it's easier to get into one extreme or the other. Work is to manage to keep balance. Sometimes you can. Many times, not really.

Pessimism and optimism are attitudes which accompany us throughout our entire existence,in different proportions. Some of us,probably the majority, are inclined to see the dark side of things above all, while others manage to remain hopeful and light-hearted even when they are confronted with bad events in their lives. There are also people who can easily fall from one extreme to another, from the darkest despair to the greatest happiness in a few second, while others remain constant in their way of seeing things.I think that most of us are more optimistic or more pessimistic by nature, but the events which happen in our lives can change our minds and we can probably train ourselves to become more optimistic just by being ourselves and trying to communicate with those people we have some things in common. If we feel that we're not lonely and there are good friends we can rely on,we'll probably manage to have a generally optimistic perspective of life.

Okay thanks for the thoughts. If we tend to be pessimistic all the time, chances are we are becoming negative to the extent that we are already offending other people.
If we are optimistic then chances are we tend to motivate other people and inspire them. @thesids (22180)

hi didi
reading your discussions never makes me think you a pessimist.
pessimism and optimism are subjective, undefined and i personally believe there is some optimism in every person, no matter what pessimism the world sees in the person... this optimism helps to take decisions.
the essence that everyone of us has at end - is the instinct of survival - how we reach that at end becomes immaterial and the fact that we survived - counts.

I doubt if optimistic people live longer. It's never proved. I also doubt if they suffer more since an optimistic person looks different upon "suffer" as others do.
What I miss is the realistic person. They exist too, being realistic doesn't mean at all you are a pessimist.
I agree with you that it's hard work to be in balance but also.. it's not always great to be in balance. We need the bad days as much as we need the good ones.
