Thug Woman

I'm a thug. I'm a tattoed, pierced thug. That's what I was told one day recently. It looks disgusting and I am defiling my body... Hm... Quite. Au contraire mon frere! I believe that in the same way people accessorise with jewellery, clothes, makeup - I adorn my body with artisticly placed piercings and works of art in the form of ink. I have 2 on my left forearm, 1 on my right forearm and a well-designed dreamcatcher on my back. Each of my tattoos are individual to me and hold meaning to me, they're not generic or trashy. They're well done. As for my piercings, I have my tongue done, tragus (that hurt in comparison to the tongue, cartilage!), and my lobes twice, though I've let the second ones close up. So, are you a thug like me ladies? Or as a non-tattooed or pierced person, what is your opinion of a tastefully adorned thug? Handbags at 10 paces lads!

I have one tattoo... a tribal rose design I created myself and then waited a year to have done near my left shoulder blade. I was about 35 at the time. I also had a second hole pierced in my left ear lobe (no gauging or anything... just standard ear piercing). My mom blasted me for the tattoo, telling me I was "desecrating" my body and, about the ear piercing, she said, "Doesn't that mean you're gay?!" *sighhhhhhhh* I was going through a horrible period in my life (divorce, two young kids on my own, mom diagnosed with cancer, being the sole support for all of us...) and I wanted to do a couple of things that were uniquely personal. I had my reasons and didn't feel the need to share them with anyone. I wasn't a child, wasn't incapable of making choices. As such, I don't judge anyone else's choices either. I do get a bit concerned when I see very young women getting really huge tattoos... it's something they might not always be happy about. My daughter's friend, at 17, got her full side done and also a good portion of her back. Had that been my daughter, I would have encouraged her to wait awhile to see if she really wanted to make that kind of commitment ~ their thoughts tend to change rapidly at that age.

She is brave indeed, I'm planning to have "Life's like an hourglass glued to the table" tattooed up my left side, but plan to wait until I've had my children and my weight has stabilised post-pregnancy as I don't want any distortion of the lettering. I'm glad you have your own little piece, for you.

Oh yeah! I don't know that I'd be able to sit still for anything that close to my ribs LOL It's excellent work, mind you... a collection of fairies and such... very pretty. As I said, I just hope that having it done so early isn't something unwise. As TheIrishClog said, weight gain and loss, pregnancy(ies), etc., could really play havoc.

I don't have any tattoos, nor any piercings, but I don't find tattoos to be disgusting. In fact, I find them to be, as you said, artistic and interesting. And if they hold special significance then I love them. I enjoy knowing, and there are few things better than looking at a symbol and knowing what it stands for. About piercings I find woman with piercings beautiful. The stranger the place pierced the more beautiful I find it. I'm a wuss and I dislike feeling pain, but I don't think anyone has the right to tell others they are defiling their own bodies. So what's my opinion of a tastefully adorned thug woman? I would call her a beautiful thug :).

No I don't have any tattoo's. I don't plan on ever getting one either. But that is just my personal preference and I don't care to have anything written on my body. That was mean whoever said that to you. That was an awful thing to say. Each person has their own reasons for their tattoos or for no tattoos. I like for people to respect me and so I do the same for them.

I'm glad that you have tough skin as well. A lot of individuals would have been hurt by that. Just because a person has a lot of tattoo's doesn't mean that they don't have feelings and that a person can say whatever they want to them. I don't know what was wrong with that woman.

That was mean indeed, I'm lucky that this is not something that upsets me!

Isn't the word "Thug" used to describe a criminal? You should ask back to the person who called you that, when did you ever rob this person? I don't have any tattoo, but still i don't see the connection between having a tattoo and being a thug...

I am actually quite partial to my "thug women" friends I am not pierced or tattooed but that is just because I am so darn indecisive about what I want. I am also a big chicken when it comes to needles. I have a friend and she owns a tattoo shop. She wants to get a hold of me so bad she can't stand it..LOL..I just don't know what I want that fits me. My b/f is tattooed and I like the way they look. They are very artistic. Although I don't have any of my own, I don't judge anyone if they do and certainly don't think any less of them.

You're right to wait until such time you've come up with a design or idea that you know you want. So many make on the spot decisions and get them done, regretting them later on. When you've been used as a pin cushion in a hospital as often as I am, a tattoo needle is nothing. Thing to remember is, don't think of it as a needle Jen. It's merely a sharp pointy stick with ink on it that scratches at your skin, you don't actually feel it going 'in' and it doesn't look like a needle. One way to look at it is that it's a scratchy paint brush!

To each his own, that's what I say! I don't have tatoos and only one piercing in each ear for one earring each that I got when I was very young. I don't want any tatoos on my body. My husband has some on his chest and arms and now that he is older he regrets having them done. I don't mind them, I guess I'm used to them after 25 years.

I don't have any single tattoo in my body. Never had piercings either except each one in my ears. But, I've always wanted to get a tattoo, I just couldn't because I'm a bit scared of needles. I'd rather call you guys who have piercings and tattoos as the most expressive and artistic people, not a thug. I admire you for not being scared to be different. And not scared to be judged. I beg to differ to the idea that tattooed people are aggressive and violent. There are some, but not all. Although, you might not set good examples for children or teenagers growing up, still, no one can dictate you on what to do or not to do, just because some people are looking up to you. It's just the way that some other tattooed people act badly that gives a negative connotations to the rest of you. you rock, but must rock in a good way Peace ya'll:)

I respect what you say and appreciate the positive comments. I think one thing that you're pointing out can be easily refuted. There are just as many and likely more people who act badly and set a bad example to children and teenagers growing up... They just don't stand out as much
