Pushing Your Luck - the Diesel Light - Men...

Climbing the walls at home, the other half decided today that we were going to make a 90-100 minute round trip to one of the larger shopping towns in the vicinity. Before we left, I looked and saw how little diesel we had left and asked him if he wanted to go and get a small fill to be sure to get us there and back - 'Nah, it'll be grand'.
So off we set and when we were around 2/3 of the way there - the diesel light came on. We hit the reset button on the mileage so we could keep track of how far we'd traveled since it came on and kept going.
We got to the shops, did the rounds, got back to the van and headed for home. 10 miles, 20, then 30 and we were beginning to seriously wonder whether or not we'd make it on the fumes that were left in the tank. 40 miles - we were nearly there... The entire time I was stressing... Worrying if we were going to be left with an hour walk in either direction to get to the nearest filling station.
Fortunately for my man and his 'sense of adventure' (yes, he asked me 'where my sense of adventure was... thought he was hilarious) we made it to the filling station in our home town and eventually got home after some very 'economical' driving all the way back from the shops. I could have killed him...
This one's open ended - share your fuel stories - Ever run out? Or, have you had your other half infuriate you on this level in a similar situation?

I have actually ran out walking a little on the wild side..LOL.
I passed an exit and figured I could make it until the next one...well...the next one was a little farther away than I thought it was going to be
I didn't try that anymore.
I'm glad you two made it without running out.

I think he was a little disappointed that we didn't get around to running out that day. He's been climbing the walls as he hasn't been working, so I think he genuinely started to see the trip and the risk as a little adventure to kill some time and have something to do...

We have not ran out when we were out and about. Though I will say I have had an issue or two with leaving the work car on empty!! Granted I work much closer than him but I don't appreciate seeing that fuel light go on the minute I turn the engine over. Especially when I didn't leave early so I could fill up.

It's a pain alright. I usually end up being the one who has to fill up. It makes most sense to fill up immediately when the light comes on. The dregs in your tank can't be good for the engine...
