I had one last Netflix I needed to watch so i could get my next Dexter and so I watched it lastnight. OMG! I knew it would be scarey but not like this. The thing would sort of clone people and live inside them. At one point it had two and was walking around like a spider. Gosh, it was awful! Anybody see it? Are you going to?

Did you see the original from I believe the late 80's with Kurt Russell in it? That one was really good. This new version...it wasn't nearly as good as they just put in far far to much violent, grossness stuff. So much it over played the theme of the story I thought. THese days they put in so much (supposed) action and special effects that it just drains the life out of a movie. Almost like you forget what was going on just before the action to the point, the action isn't even plot related...just alot of gross, violence stuff. Like you said...it was awful. But that original one with Kurt in it...the plot was there, is had it's bit of special effects for the moster "thing"...but it wasn't so gross it overpowered the whole story and you could sit through the movie without being grossed out. That is what I don't like about movies these days..they are remaking everything and make them so violent, gross and all that, that they aren't even good.
I just watched on last night called "The Hunted"...half way through it...I said to my husband...."this is a "remake" of Rambo...same plot...just a ton more blood, guts and gore to it! But it was Rambo, all over again.

Maybe i did see the one with Kurt Russell in it. I think if they are going to do gross and violent they need to do very little plot. They are remaking alot of stuff. I sure am glad they are bring out the ERB stuff now. Hope it continues. I thought it wwas sort of comical when they started doing the Wrath of the Titans and more mythical stuff like that. It was as if they had run out of a place to go. I enjoyed The Thing. Don't get me wrong. It had some cool effects which i always look for. But then it was awful because the effects were so good. Confusing?

I know what you mean...the special effects can be good, but are so over powering, they tend to make you forget about the plot of the movie. And you nailed it...they go so overboard on special effects that there is very little plot these days!
It is the same with the violently foul language. Have you ever watched Casino with Joe Peshi? That has got to be the worst ever. I mean every third word is the F-word and it is used as an adjective, an adverb and a noun!! He says it so much that literally...the dialog in that movie is slim to nearly none...except for that word! And all movies jut throw that in so often and other cuss words and vulgar language...it just takes away from t he plot. I turn them off. I can't stand it. That kind of language doesn't make the movie any better, doesn't personify the actor or character any better, doesn't add anything to the movie at all...it just makes it easier on the writers..they don't have to write so much dialog!!!

I did that with HBO so I could watch True blood. Yes, I really like dexter. Don't tell what is happening. I am only up to the third season. I am also watch United States of Tara. It is pretty good. I like multiple personalities so I just on it when I saw it on Netflix.

Wasn't that movie a trip??? It was so freaky! I wasn't expecting it to be that good..it was a remake of an older version. I hadn't seen the older version but I bet it is just as good..maybe not special graphics wise but I am always disappointed with remakes it seems.

i didn't know this was a remake. I thought it was a prequel to original and remake. But it was good.

The movie scares you and what comes to my mind is that in real life maybe there is still other creature/creatures in our world that exists but is not yet discovered. In my opinion I am going to watch the movie because it helps you widen your knowledge though it"s scary and think of new things or rather predict what will happen on the coming years.

True. Scarey to think of other creatures existing that we aren't aware of.

I haven't seen it. I don't think that's really my sort of "scary" movie, and I'm certain that it's one that my boyfriend wouldn't watch. I tend to gravitate more toward foreign horror films, and my boyfriend tends to gravitate away from all horror films.

I saw when this movie came out but I thought it was a re-make and not a prequel. I read the original story by John Campbell (Who Goes There, written in 1938) years ago and I thought that Carpenter's movie was closer to the original story than the '50's movie which seemed rather silly. In that movie the alien was a sort of humanoid vegetable both in his biology and in his seeming lack of intelligence. But it was James Arness's first movie.
