Hiya myLotters and friends!
Almost Fifteen months ago when Zayzay undergone tonsillectomy. Doctors had to remove both tonsils that caused him to stop breathing and lose oxygen while he sleep (snoring actually is just one manifestation of the condition sleep apnea).
Just before that surgery, doctors told us, it is very important to cure sleep apnea at its early stage, most especially in children as this may affect their growth. What they are more concerned about this is their potential.
Everytime they sleep at night they lose oxygen. And part of their development a lot of things happen with their growth hormones, memory, etc. which disrupt their potential to grow hopefully, they would be more intelligent, smarter and with a much better behavior. The effect actually do not happen today but in the future, that they will not reach their potential.
So why I am now here again?
I just thought about the potential that doctors have told us. When Zayzay went to school (prep or day care) for the first time, we were actually afraid he won't be doing good inside the class. But here he is, after a year. He finished the year and he even got recognized. He's one of the Outstanding pupils of their class and awarded Most Industrious.
Without the apnea, soon he will reach his potential. Maybe as he grows older, he won't just be outstanding but most outstanding.

Yhea your right but in other way, that's the stage when they started to decide on their own, we can't control what they want we can guide them but they will decide if they will take our advice. Don't get too much stress when they don't want to listen sometimes we must let them experience some mistake for they will learn from it.

hi lyn. he really makes me proud. and not only him, all of my kids, they always makes me a proud dad. although sometimes, i can't help to think that they stay young but not a good one. i say this because, with my other children, once they reach their teenage years, they change a lot. they become to stubborn and never listen to their parents.
well, it's really something we are thankful to the One Above, that He moved for help to reach us. still, no one ever told me how those people from that tv program were able to get the story of zay and how we needed that help.

i agree, all we can do is guide them with our advice but we cannot control if they will take it or live with it. i always try not to get stressed with their attitude but it really irritates me when they keep doing what they want. it stressed me more when my wife starts to do the talking.

A parent usually wishes the best for their children. Yours has been through quite an experience and he is now doing very well it sounds like. That is to be thankful for. I wouldn't push him to be excellent but if he does well that is great. Good wishes to him.

We can't push them. Just nudge them in the right direction.

At least his illness was detected in an early age. Some people diagnosed with sleep apnea when they turn adults, or even during their older age.Congrats on his achievements and I wish him all the luck that he remains a good child, a good student as he grows. The photo looks smart and he seems to be a jolly kid with a cute smile :)

and there were even those who weren't even diagnosed with the condition, just slept one night and never woke up again.
thanks for the greetings and for all the luck wish. the photo actually was taken by one of the photographers doing business during the program even when we have our own camera with us. my wife was also impressed with the picture so we took it for almost a dollar. we have more photos posted on his facebook account.

I BELIEVE. Yes, I believe, with capital letters. I have heard your dearly beloved son have undergone tonsillectomy from friends at mylot worldwide. I am extremely happy to know that he's doing extremely well, being recognized in school. There is nothing impossible with God. I believe he will grow up and reach his potential, to be a blessing to you and others. Helping him by giving him natural food supplements that will provide the necessary nutrition his body needs would enhance his fast recovery and improvement. You're a great father.

thanks for the compliment. we are really thankful that after the surgery, he shows great improvements. he's not even experiencing any common illness like fever or colds so far, unlike when he still have those tonsils. and we really didn't expect that he will also be doing good in school, after the doctors told us about the potential thing.

Well remember Neil, we are just recently friends, so I never seen your post and any pictures you uploaded, but he is really adorable. Of course don't tell him that, if he is like most boys, it will just embarrass him..
And I can see how he is a star, and I look forward to watching him grow and overcome obstacles in his life..

Hi neil! I am so happy to hear that Zayzay is doing to well! I know
how much you and your family went through just to get him the operation
to begin with. And now not only is his health better, but his is able
to concentrate and do so well in his school work too. That is quite
a Blessing! I am so proud for you and your family to hear that he is
is one of the Outstanding students already at his age! Maybe he will
want to become a doctor! Now wouldn't that be wonderful! The main thing
though is that he is happy and healthy~

yes opal, we are really happy that he is doing well, not only with his health but also in school. we are really thankful that despite being in the rough road and dark tunnel we passed through, he is now able to concentrate "more" on what he loves doing. of course, being a menace is another thing.

Now that this wonderful little boy is getting proper rest only the sky and beyond will be his limit. Makesure he knows that what he has done is a big deal, take his picture and if he got a paper reward make sure that is framed also. If not get him a blue ribbon, that is what we give winners in the USA.
Tell him it's from all of us who wish him well.

what's blue ribbon? is it the brand of cake and pasties so popular even here in our country?
oh well, my wife already had the plan for all the awards they will get, not only zay's but all of the kids. she thought about it and actually, some of the medals are all in one place. so when we have the chance, we will get them all in frames.

i went wrong with the blue ribbon thing, i got confused so i check the net back. oh my, it's not the cake and it's red ribbon that's one of the most popular cake brand names here.

Oh,I didn't know about that sickness until now. I'm happy your son is okay,he is so cute in that picture!
It's great to know your son did well in school! He deserves a gift, lol!
My daughter will be in her school this June and it's going to be her first. I'm quite afraid since they said my daughter is already late at her age,she is 4 yrs old now and I didn't know that we should enroll kids at the age of 3,yay! My son went to school at the age of 4 and that was the right age of first schooling that time. So I thought enrolling my daughter at the age of 3 is too early for her.

i was also surprised the first time i heard about this condition and to think, it happened to my own son. there were lots of lives lost while asleep. one night they went to sleep and never woke up again. they were puzzled about the deaths and their only clue is, that person was a loud snorer. they never knew they had sleep apnea. they were told it was a heart attack or even a nightmare. but actually, it was.
oh yes, kids today go to school much earlier or younger than in our times. i remember kindergarten or preparatory school were not requested for first time grade schoolers but now it's a requirement.
