Tonsils: with or without?

Great health is important, but for some people, it isn't handed to us on a silver platter.
I began having problems with my tonsils 40 years ago. I later learned that I carry the Epstein-Barr virus and when it becomes active I experience the severe throat pain that accompanies mono.
I did everything within my power to heal myself and I successfully learned to manage the virus so that it lied dormant in my cells most of the time.
I finally had enough. On Thursday of last week I had my tonsils surgically removed. I'm in the beginning stages of recovering from an adult tonsillectomy and I'm very grateful for this opportunity to be healthy.
Do you still have tonsils? Have you ever been diagnosed with obstructive sleep apnea? Do your tonsils ever bother you?
Please feel free to express yourself.

I had my tonsils removed when I was 5 years old. I think it was a more common procedure back then (we're talkin 47 years ago here!) I don't recall the reason my mother, who was a nurse, decided to have them removed but I'm guessing it was because they kept getting infected.
I hope you recover quickly!

Not at all- I am fortunate not to have anything wrong with my tonsils- I got tonsilitis a few times when i was little and it hurt but that was a long time ago.. I think there is nothing bad about losing tonsils but it does make you less immune to coughs and colds.
