School hours from 6.30am

subhee ready for school - my grand daughter ready for school
India
April 16, 2012 2:44am CST
My granddaughter Subhee is in KG1 class of the best convent school in the city; because of the too hot weather; as per government guidelines they have changed the school hours from 6.30 am to 9.30am now, this means she has to leave home at 5.30am, as the school is 6 kilometers away and the rented car in which she goes reaches our door at 5.15am sharp; next it collects 6 more girls and drops them in school. So her mom and I have to get up at 4.30, bath her, cook her breakfast etc, her younger brother Bishu gets up and we have to take care. What is the school timing at your place normally, is there morning school in hot weather, I just want to know. How your kids go to school? Please comment and share your valued opinion. Sorry, I am no more regular here because of my and hubby Professor’s health issues. Please bear with me, if I get time I will visit mylot. Hi, I'm from bhopal and i have two school going children. The normal school timing here is from 7.15 am to 1.30 am and during winter season it starts half an hour late. We have arranged a van for them in which there are about 6-7 students. Due to the hot weather the schools have closed with effect from tomorrow i.e. 17 April and reopens on 20 June. Really I don’t know what the kids would do with long holidays…uh!! Since my daughter is in 10th, her classes are made half day i.e. she’ll have classes from 7.15 till 11.30 am… It is a difficult task for the parents to get up early, wake up the child, prepare them for school. But we have been trying to send them school everyday and last year my daughter even got a full attendance award and she never cried but now I see my neighbor’s daughter is in 1st and she is very fussy and cries a lot in the wee hours… Would like to see you soon... cheers viju

Viju, Just tell her to relax and do her best in school. There is nothing to worry if she can’t reach in the top, since she is doing and making her best, that is enough. Please make her understand, encourage and support her. My son too got full attendance certificate and hardworking certificate last time. I remember the last week of working days in school, he got high temperature but he denied to sit at home by telling that I will lost my full attendance and went to school. Then I sent a note to his class teacher, I felt really bad to send him school when he was ill.

School starting times are always a problem, aren't they? When I went to school in Peru, our hours were 9am - 12 and 2 - 5pm and we could go home for lunch. School times in Austria are different and they start at 7:30 and continue going non-stop until 4pm! They only arrive home for lunch at 1.45pm at the earliest, but in the final years they have additional courses and many times they don't come home until nearly 5pm! The kids have to make sure they have a good breakfast, especially when it is cold in winter! The government is considering changing those times and I reckon that they should, as they don't even have a school cafeteria where the children can have something to eat during the day!

I used to live in Lima and the weather there had no extremes. in Summer temps might go up to the high twenties and the coolest it would get in winter used to be 10° or so, but the problem was that it was so humid that even the streets would get wet, even though it never rains! As it is close to the Equator, one had to be very careful with the sun as it could easily burn you! In Austria it can get very cold, but it does not snow much in Graz, where we live, as there are some mountains on the way!

Wow! 6.30 in the morning is really early! That would be difficult. Here most schools do not begin until 8 AM. Some of the younger kid's classes start as early as 7.30. But then they are out by around 2.30 or 3.00 in the afternoon.

Wow, 6:30AM..that's way too early. Kids really have to get to bed early, too, so they'd have enough sleep. But, if the reason is valid and its really aimed to take care of the kids' health, then it should be the best option there is. My daughter is also in K1, or will be in the coming schoolyear, that's this June. She is attending summer classes right now to prepare her for K1. She goes to school at 10AM, and it really is hot. Since the school is just a few blocks away from home, her nanny walks her to school and waits for her there. School is only for two hours. If my husband is here, he drives her to school. Im going to buy her a small umbrella to protect her from the heat, at the same time, she'll find it fun.

Kalyni Ji, It's not like that only there.Atleast i can tell that with proof.I have a sister who is doing her 12th standard in the best school here in Tamil Nadu.. Oops! That's way to bad to send a KG girl to school at 5:30 am but that's way to good to have got up at the early hours of day.Omg! 4:30 is really too early but i guess we could bear with 5.My mom gets up at 4:45 and my sister has school from 6:40 to 3:40.She's doing her 12th now and seems this school coaches for IIT's as well.My sister is one of those Bookworms and she fought with my mom and dad to join in that school.Dad was fond of studies always.I never did perform well!My sister goes to school by the school van that comes at 6:00 and it's difficult to prepare breakfast and lunch all before that..My mom does only because she wanted to.It's all her fate i would say being the elder one here... Education has become one of the rarest and costliest things-But now i realise-Good education is worth more than everything else-can beat all the money-it can ofcourse always earn money,right?.. Take care of Professor's health. He has to teach people. We need teachers-valuable ones... Good eve Ji!

Despite of the weather condition, the school timing is fixed for the whole year in this place. In summer season, when the weather is too hot, they give the summer vacation for kids. This is applicable in winter too, when winter is so harsh, they close down the school. It is really very difficult to get up this much early and leave to school for small kids. Anyway she can sleep well once she returned from school. The also it is difficult to get up so early. I have practical experience to wake up kids in early morning. My kids have the habit of sleeping in morning time and go to bed late. I hope she can manage the new timing well.

Here in China, adults usually began their work at 8 am or 9 am, while children have to reach the school before 7am or even earlier. I think to children, it is too early, but that makes their parents can sent them safely to the school before they going to work. To you, it is really a hard work. 5.30am is too early, parents have to get up when the day is still dark to make preparation for the children and exhausted before they going to work. I think the government should think twice before making a policy into work.

Hi Kalyni, it is a pity to hear that your grand-daughter have to begin her studies at such an early hours at 6.30 am. As for my area here, my son begin his studies at 8 am in the morning. He finishes his studies at 12 pm everyday. I think if you ask my son to attend school at such an early hour, i am sure he won't be able to attend for long. Because he can't wake-up very early. I am happy to hear that your grand-daughter able to wake-up so early to attend her studies. I am sure she didn't create much problem to all of you. Do take care always, Auntie and Uncle Professor.

Starting school at 6.30 is very early and I guess it's even hard to wake up the children so early. I guess they have to go to bed early in the evening to be able to get up, and can't be easy for you either to get them ready. Here schools start at 8.00, the kids have to arrive till 7.30-7.45 and the classes go until 2-5 p.m with just a short lunch break, so they can't go home to eat.
