since a lot of our neighbors always burn garbage, day and night.. it really hurts our lung and nose- and even though we report it, the same things still go on everyday- they even burn plastic sometimes which has a really strong smell. it would be nice if the wind didn't blow in our direction in those times.

I have the same problem with my neighbor. We complained and asked our neighbor politely if they can stop burning garbage especially plastics and rubbers because we have a kid in the house and my husband is asthmatic, but our neighbor didn't listen. So, we ended up going to the police and the barangay captain to resolve it with our neighbor, but it didn't help still because our neighbor told us that we have to pay her 500 bucks! My husband got really angry. So we knew that complaining will never help so we just close the windows everyday. But my neighbor right now is making us annoy because he started burning garbage in the middle of the night and sometimes we woke up and smelled the burning garbage came through from the aircon. I think she is doing it in purpose now. We don't know how to stop this. We even called the fire department because we know that it is illegal to burn garbage but it seems like they not doing their job. Anyways, this is Philippines.

Because my husband is an american and they are trying to get money from. So, I think they are doing it in purpose. We are planning on writing a letter to the governor because there is no fair trial here in our town.

I don't understand why your neighbor asked you to pay her 500, for what for complaining. I don't think it's right. They are the one who violated the law, you just did what a law abiding citizen must do. And now she is harassing your family because your husband is a foreigner. My guess is, she is envious of you.

She is just trying to annoy us. She is not asking just 500 pesos. She is asking 500 bucks or 500 US dollars. Who is she that she think it is? hehehehehe

I would look and see but isn't plastic smoke toxic? It could be dangerous to breath in. I would bring this up to the landlord. If it wasn't taken care of I would move. In most areas I have ever lived in there were laws that we couldn't burn stuff. I would check into this. It's your health.

Here we also have a neighborhood thing that people get together and make up laws that all have to go by. Like keeping rubish out of the lawns and such. Everyone in the neighborhood has to go by these rules. Not sure what the name of it is.

Yeah, I think it is also against the law here but people don't really care much since the effects aren't easily seen or don't happen that instant.. We don't really have a landlord something, people own their lands here..

I would be so mad if something like that would happen. Thankfully that is not done or if it is, it is not done on a regular basis. Not that anyone reporting it would do much good around here. People wouldn't really care. And it is really bad if someone did do that on the days that the wind was blowing, which is a stupid idea for common sense reasons. I like my windows open at all points when it is warm enough. I just can't focus that well without a steady stream of fresh air, which is the reason why I hate the cold of the winter because they have to remain shut. Should someone pollute that fresh air at the point where the windows cannot be open due to the strong smell. And someone doing this day and night, that is absurd and is likely doing something to contaminate the air even more so than it is.

Burning plastics, rubber or any of it's kind is illegal because of the toxic chemicals it produces while it is being burned. The best you should do is report the matter to you nearest barangay officials but I also doubt that it will be resolve. Ignorance of the law is one thing, the other is adhering to it.

People don't really care much about the law here since some of the officials are corrupt or neglect their duties. I doubt this will ever be solved unless something life-threatening would really happen to many.
